For the past few weeks the Grade
3/4 class has been studying "Les
Animaux de Compagnie" (trans-
lated that means pets). To complete
Stratford
had record
attendance
The final box-office figures for
the Stratford Festival's 46th season,
which concluded on Sunday, Nov.
8, were announced Nov. 24 by
General Manager Antoni Cimolino.
The six-month season,
encompassing a total of 585
performances of 12 productions in
three theatres, earned a gross box-
office revenue of $23,591,730 the
highest in the Festival's history.
Total attendance for the season was
523,015, representing 71 per cent
of capacity. Admittances were up
nearly 20,00 over last year, and
these numbers have steadily
increased throughout Artistic
Director Richard Monette's tenure
over the past five seasons.
"Richard Monette has given us
one more stellar season, and with
the momentum of the past five
years behind us, we look forward to
another enlightening, entertaining
and record-breaking season in
1999," said Cimolino..
"Admittances have grown by
nearly 75,000 tickets annually over
the course of Richard Monette's
tenure, with a marked increase in
1998 in youth audiences, U.S.
visitors and shoulder-season
business."
The members' priority booking
period began on Nov. 9 for the
1999 season, and ticket sales and
overnight accommodations are
already brisk confirming the
strength of selections for the
forthcoming season, said Cimolino.
Phone lines for the 1999 season
open to the public on Jan. 16.
The 1999 seasons runs from May
4 to Nov. 7.
Complete year-end financial
results will be announced at the
Annual General Meeting of
Members of the Stratford
Shakespearean Festival Foundation
of Canada, at the Festival Theatre
on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 11 a.m.

bag puppets and conducted their
own plays. They performed their
plays for other classes and Cole
Stewart and Andy Toll videotaped
them.

class are communicating in French
with German students from
Rostock, near the Baltic Sea in
former Eastern Germany.

The Grade 3/4s have been
studying medieval times for the
past few weeks. The things they
have been studying are falconry,
manors, becoming a knight, and
reading about the tools they used.
Creative, is one word that
explains the Grade 3/4s. Each
student has created his or her own
castle each with many detailed
features in it. They have also been
reading the book, The Door in the
Wall. This novel took place when
the Black Plague swept throughout
England.
Last week the class visited the
Blyth Library where Mrs. Brigham
taught them how to research
information using the internet, as
well as reference books. She also
allowed them to sign out many
books to help with their studies.
Thank you Mrs. Brigham from the
Grade 3/4 class.
