Dennises greet at Duff's
Olene and Murray Dennis were
greeters at Duft's United Church on
Nov. 29, the first Sunday in
Advent. The sanctuary had been
splendidly decorated for the
Christmas season by Maxine
Houston and family.
The angelic sound of bells, which
tilled the air, was produced by the
Mitchell Bell ringers as they played
different carols.
Rev. James Murray and his sons,
Nathan, Peter and Scott read the
Advent Litany and lit the first
Advent candle.
Rev. Murray announced that the
UCW Christmas meeting will be
Dec. 2, starting with a potluck
supper. The White gift service will
be held next Sunday. Everyone is
asked to bring either a toy or
clothing plus non-perishable food
items.
Rev. Murray's sermon was
called, 'Hope — the First Sunday of
Advent.'
Hope is contagious, he said. It
comes from knowing things can be
different, that things can change. It
is the belief that the way things are
now, is not how it always must be.
Hope is the knowledge which tells
us that possibilities in life are real.
Hope builds people up, to look
beyond the present moment, and to
face the future with confidence.
"Hope comes from believing in a
God who is with us always, and
who gives us love, peace and joy in
abundance, such a hope is
contagious," said Rev. Murray.
Community
says its
goodbye
to family
A moving away party was held at
Ken and Ann Williamson for
Darlene and Andy Vanderveen and
children last Friday. Around 80
friends and neighbours filled the
house. Euchre was played, lunch
served and a lot of visiting took
place.
Good luck in your new home
folks.
It was a short week at Walton
Public School as Friday was parent .
teacher interviews. It was also a
long week for the Grade 2/3s as
hamster, Nibs still was nowhere to
be found. Live traps were set but
they remained empty.
So the students left Thursday
afternoon with sad hearts. But
come Monday morning they will be
very surprised because Nibs has
been found. Mrs. Scott had just
completed her last interview
Thursday night and was picking up
a bag to leave when out popped
Nibs. She saw Andrew VanVliet
out in the hall and called him in to
see if he could pick up Nibs.
Well, Nibs had been out in the
wild for a while and had forgotten
that he wasn't supposed to bite.
Andrew brought in his dad John,
and donning gloves, picked up the
hamster and put him back into his
cage. Nibs was in minimum
security before but is now placed in
maximum security with stronger
locks.
The Lambton Heritage Museum'
will be coming to the school on
Wednesday presenting their in-
school Christmas program. There
will be four learning stations set up
for students to take part.
Musical treat
The Seaforth All Girls Marching Band made a special
appearance to the delight of the residents at Huronlea on
Saturday. The group put the county home for the aged on
their busy agenda between performances at two Santa
Claus Parades in the area (Ashley Gropp photo)
