Novice Reps silver in shootout
The Brussels Novice Rep team
travelled to Durham on the
weekend for a tournament.
On Saturday, they defeated
Durham 4 - I. Scoring for Brussels
was Alyssa Gowing on a pass from
Chris Corbett. Christopher Jutzi
scored on a pass from Wade
Stephenson and Adam Corbett.
Corbett scored on a pass from
Cowing and Ryan Jutzi then again
on a pass from Chase Chapman.
Durham scored their only goal in
the third period.
On Sunday morning, Brussels
met up with Flesherton. Flesherton
started the scoring in the first
period. Corbett scored unassisted in
the second period and again in the
second period on a pass from
Christopher Jutzi and Chapman.
Corbett got the third goal of the
game in the third period on a pass
from Chapman and Gowing.
Flesherton scored their second
goal in the last 30 seconds of the
game.
The final score was 3 - 2 for
Brussels.
Later on Sunday afternoon,
Brussels and Walkerton played off
in the championship game.
Brussels started the scoring when
Corbett scored on a pass from Jutzi.
In the second period, Corbett
again scored on a pass from Jordan
Campbell and Chapman.
Walkerton managed to score
twice in the third period to tie the
game. Great effort was put forth
from both teams but the goalies
managed to keep the puck out of
their nets. In five minutes of
overtime, no goal was scored which
meant shootouts.
Walkerton scored one goal
against Shane Gibson out of five
shooters but Brussels failed to
score. Walkerton took home the
gold medals and Brussels took
home the silver medals.
Corbett received a very special
trophy at the end of the tournament
from Mrs. Schaffer whose late
husband supported hockey for
many years in Durham and
supports this tournament through a
memorial fund. The trophy was for
the most outstanding player of the
tournament who is most likely to
go on in hockey. He scored seven
of Brussels' goals and assisted on
one goal. Chris gives it everything
he's got everytime he is on the ice.
The team also got another trophy
at the end of the game — the coach,
Charles Corbett finally relented and
let the team cut off his prized rat
tail. After such intense effort was
given by each and every player, he
handed over the scissors and let the
team skate around the ice with the
assorted number of trophies they
had earned on the weekend.
