Sally Lawton to speak to UCW
Toye addresses club
The November meeting of the
Belgrave Community Club was
held Nov. 6 with 32 present. The
group enjoyed a potluck dinner.
President Lorne Campbell
welcomed everyone. Members
were reminded of the Christmas
Dinner Friday, Dec. 4 at noon. Mrs.
Reid will cater.
Gordon Bosman moved a vote of
thanks to Ross Anderson and
Richard Moore for installing
casters to the pool table.
Alf Nichol favoured the group
with several piano selections.
Mabel Wheeler introduced the
Thelma Pletch and Betty Irwin
welcomed worshippers and handed
out the service of worship at Knox
United Church on Sunday, Nov. 8.
A moment's silence for
Remembrance Day was followed
by the singing of 0 Canada.
Tracy Robinson was in charge of
nursery. The senior choir of mixed
voices sang My Shepherd is the
Living God, accompanied by
Elizabeth Procter.
The WMS held its meeting on
Monday, Nov. 9 at the home of
Freda Scott.
Scripture was read by Ivy
Cloakey. Margaret Siertsema gave
a meditation entitled God Cares for
His Sheep.
Rev. Cathrine Campbell led in
prayer.
The first tree lighting ceremony
and carolling will be held Tuesday,
Dec. 1, 7 - 8 p.m. at Belgrave
Community Heritage Park. Snacks
to follow at Belgrave. Community
Edith Vincent recently returned
home from Wingham Hospital.
Friends, neighbours and relatives
wish Edith a speedy recovery.
Ashley Irwin of Ashfield Twp.
guest speaker, Keith Toye, a
veteran and member of Wingham
Legion. Mr. Toye had compiled a
list of all the past presidents of
Wingham Legion. He is working
on the list of all veterans from the
Wingham area. Help from anyone
who can add to his information
would be appreciated.
He reminded everyone about war
expressions to which they could
relate — ration coupons, blackouts,
air raid sirens, care parcels, knitting
and war songs.
Olive Bolt read the poem "Why
We Wear a Poppy".
The Old Testament reading was
from Haggai 2: 3 - 9. Psalm 98 was
read. The Epistle reading was from
Thessalonians 2: 1-5, 13-17 with
the gospel lesson from Luke 20: 27
- 38.
Children's time was based on
"remembering" as was the sermon
referring to the reading from
Haggai.
Les Shaw and Joyce Vincent
took up the offering.
Roll call was a verse or poem on
Remembrance.
Margaret gave the secreta'ry's
report. Ivy gave the treasurer's
report.
Lottie Scott read a story,
"Remember When".
A petition was signed by all
concerning the abuse of sweatshop
workers.

Units held their Annual "Home
Sweet Home" Christmas Craft and
Bake Sale-on Saturday, Nov. 14 at
the Belgrave Community Centre.
Crafters provided an excellent
selection of gift ideas for the eager
200 shoppers attending and the
bake tables had something for
every sweet tooth too!

was held at the Belgrave Arena on
Nov. 11. Lorne Campbell
welcomed all attending and the
Grade 6 class from East Wawanosh
Public School recited In Flanders
Fields.
Rev. - Mary Jane Hobden
addressed the crowd of 65 and led
in prayer. This was followed by
silence and 0 Canada. Two pupils
from the school laid a wreath as did
Allan Walker for the Kinsmen.

wars and veterans who served.
an armistice poem entitled "Peace".
Lorna Cook and Muriel Coultes
presented the Remembrance Day
Worship service. Scripture was
taken from Levicitus.
The -card friend report was given
by Jane Grasby.

Mosaic '99 Raffle draw winners
included Jennifer Lutz, Belgrave,
knitted afghan; Lori Salvarda, RR

The Belgrave Guiding Units
acknowledge the support of this as
well as other guiding functions
throughout the year.

Dinner is Dec. 15.
White Gift Sunday is Nov. 29.
There will be lunch following the
service. Brick members are invited.
The UCW general meeting is
Nov. 26. Sally Lawton from the
Adult Day Centre is the guest
speaker.
The Wingham Pentecostal
Church is the Christmas Bureau
depot for this year. A request has
been made for socks and
underwear.
The December meeting will be at
Muriel Coultes' home.

"Uprooted People".

wishing to move away from home
