PAGE 21. 0 bituaries IRVINE SEYMOUR WALLACE Irvine Seymour Wallace was a well-known community figure dur- ing his years in Blyth. Those who remembered him, mourned his passing at Huronview Home for the Aged on Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998. Born 97 years ago, May 30, 1901, he was the son of the late John and Ellen (Newcombe) Wal- lace of Morris Twp. His beloved wife, the former Dorothy Howard predeceased him in 1981. During his years in Blyth, Mr. Wallace was a prominent busi- nessperson and community leader. In 1932 he served as village reeve. He worked as a miller, then up to the early 1960s owned and operat- ed a general store on Blyth's main street. He was a member of Blyth Unit- ed Church and of the Loyal Orange Lodge. Mr. Wallace served as the vil- lage's town clerk until his retire- ment in 1972. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Shirley Rutledge of Blyth, Irma and Bill Marshall of Clinton, Bev and Helen Wallace of Londesboro and his daughter-in- law June Wallace of Goderich. He was a dear grandfather to 13 and great-grandfather to 22. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Wallace was predeceased by a son, Howard in 1996, his siblings, Basil, Robert, Charlotte and Richard, six half-brothers and one half-sister. Visitation was held at the Beat- tie-Falconer Funeral Home, "Tasker Chapel" in Blyth on Mon- day, Nov. 2, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Loyal Orange Service was held that evening at 9 p.m. Rev. Cecil Wittich officiated at the service held at the funeral home on Tues- day at 2 p.m. Interment at Blyth Union Ceme- tery. PHYLLIS LOREEN BOAK Phyllis Boak, of Gypsy Lane, Blyth, passed away Nov. 6, 1998 in Wingham. She was 71. Born in East Wawanosh Twp. Aug. 23, 1927, she was the daugh- ter of the late Frederick and Edna Cook. A homemaker and musician, Mrs. Boak was the organist and choir leader for many years at Blyth United Church and Blake United Church. In her early days she taught paino in Lucknow. Mrs. Boak was a member of the MacKay Choristers. She attended Westfield United and Blyth United Churches. Mrs. Boak was the beloved wife of James, who predeceased her in 1992. She was the dear mother of James of Leamington, Donald and Karen of RR1, Dungannon, Sherry and Doug Howatt of RR1, Bel- grave, Marcia and Mike Maillet of Essex, and her Irish son, Roy Phillips of Vancouver. She was the loving sister of Arnold Cook of Blyth, Vi Taylor of Victoria, B.C. and Ruth McClinchey of Goderich. She will be lovingly remembered by 12 grandchildren. Two infant children also prede- ceased her. Visitation was on Sunday, Nov. 8, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Beattie Falconer Funeral Homes "Tasker Chapel", Blyth. The funeral service was held on Monday, Nov. 9 at 1:30 p.m. from the Westfield Church. Rev. Cecil Wittich and Mr. Don Vair officiat- ed. Interment was at Green Hills Cemetery, Lucknow. Donations to Blyth United Church, Westfield Church, the Canadian Cancer Society or Wing- ham and District Hospital would be appreciated as expressions of sym- pathy. MURRAY CHAPMAN Mr. G. Murray Chapman,. age 63 of 45 Buckingham Dr., Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. He was born in Stratford, son of the late Percy Chapman and the former Anne Hayman. He had worked at the Department of Highways, Samsonite and Hendricksons. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Stratford and the Boy Scouts of Canada. Mr. Murray was the husband of the late Marie Holzhauer who predeceased him in 1980. He was the loving father of Doug Chapman and wife Laurie of RR 2, Bluevale, Susan Chapman of Stratford and' Mike Chapman of RR 1, Walton and grandfather of Cory and Chase Chapman. He was the dear brother of Lois Wells and Marilyn Agnew, both of Stratford and is also survived by an aunt, Eleanor McMurray and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a brother-in- law Donald Agnew. Friends and relatives called at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St., Stratford on Sunday, Nov. 8 from 2 - 5 p.m. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Monday, Nov. 9 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Dr. David Thompson officiated. Interment in Avondale Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Humane Society or to the Boy Scouts, Stratford District through the funeral home. DOROTHY "IRENE" AMENT Dorothy "Irene" Ament of Blyth and formerly of Goderich passed away Nov. 5. She was 81. Miss Ament was a sister of Stewart and Mildred Ament of Blyth. She is survived by nieces Wendy (Martin Gilkin) of Cumberland B.C. and Shirley East, Clinton and nephew Garry Ament and great nieces and nephews Lyndsie, Alanna, Stewart, Bill and Kevin. She will be missed by friends Marie Amero of London and Bryan and Gayle King of Blyth. She was predeceased by brother Howard Ament of Cumberland B.C. Friends were received at the McCallum & Palla Funeral Home, Goderich on Monday, Nov. 9 from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. Captain Patrick O'Doherty of The Salvation Army officiated. GEORGE AUGUST FISCHER George August Fischer of RR I, Bluevale, passed away at Wingham and District Hospital, Wingham on Sunday, Nov. 8. He was 82. Mr. Fischer was the beloved husband of Marguerite (Henning) Fischer and dear father of Kalvin and Pamela Fischer of RR I, Bluevale and Dayle and Jim Moffat of RR 1, Wingham. He was the grandfather of Sandra and Steven Fischer. and Rob, Jeff and Julie Moffat and brother of Elsie Thuell of Willowdale, Velma Ellacott of Kitchener, Bill and Phyllis Fischer of Kitchener, Jack and Margaret Fischer of Bluevale, Charlie and Laura Fischer and Ken and Doris Fischer, all of Brussels. Mr. Fischer was predeceased by one brother Wilfred Fischer. Visitation was at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 3:30 - 5:30 and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Rev. ELIZABETH MARGARET (BETH) JOHNSTON Mrs. Elizabeth M. Johnston of Braemar Retirement Centre, Wingham, passed away at Wingham and District Hospital, Wingham on Saturday, Nov. 7. She was 89. The former Beth Barnard was the beloved wife of the late Sparling Johnston who predeceased her in 1976. She was the dear mother of Shirley Nicholson, Ken and Bessie Johnston, Glen Johnston and Murray and Audrey Johnston all of the Bluevale area, a loving sister of Alan Barnard of Stratford. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her infant son, Gerry Robert, her son- in-law Ross Nicholson in 1997, three brothers and one sister. Visitation was at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Sunday, Nov. 8 from 2 - 4 and 7 - p.m. Funeral service was at the funeral home on Monday at 1:30 p.m. Rev. James Murray officiated. Interment in Wingham Cemetery, Turnberry Township. Bearers were Dean and Janice Nicholson, Ian, Bruce, Scott, Paul, Kevin and Darren Johnston.
