Help protect the environment
Reduce, reuse and recycle
On Nov. 6, 30 people attended
the monthly Community Dining
Program at the Blyth Anglican
Church. Two meals were delivered
by Adrian Vos and Vera Badley.
Happy Birthday was sung to
Graham McDowell. This month,
the door prize and the 50/50 draw
were won by Bill Craig (He was
advised to get a 649 ticket with this
kind of luck!).
The highlight of the afternoon
featured two Legion veterans, Clare
Vincent of (Blyth Legion and Corky
Corcoron of Goderich Legion, gave
speeches concerning what
Remembrance Day represents.
A very interesting subject was
mentioned. In Northern France, 250
acres was donated to Canada. This
property later became "Vimy
Ridge" where a monument now
stands with the names of 11,000
war veterans, who gave their lives
for freedom. On this land, 11,000
trees have been planted in
recognition of them.
Poppies were available, as well
as information on where donations
are spent.
Leah Davis thanked both for their
speeches.
The next luncheon will be held
on Friday, Dec. 11. Darlene
VanderVeen and Debbie Siertsema
will be providing musical
entertainment.
This will be the last one for 1998.
