Class welcomes new student
By Alicia Marshall
This year the Blyth Grade 1/2s
are busy with 23 students in their
class. There are 12 in Grade 1 and
11 in Grade 2. Two weeks ago they
were pleased to welcome a new
student, Tyan Bailey, to their class.
Everyone is excited ablput
Halloween this year. Every day a
student receives a spooky treat to
count down the days to Halloween.
Most of the class is occupied with
their jack-o-lantern Halloween art,
while the rest of the students' art is
on display in the classroom.
Thanksgiving art was completed by
mixing primary colours together to
create turkey feathers.
In the afternoon the Grade 1/2s
have story time when students read
to the class. Several students have
already participated in this activity.
The Grade 1/2 class also enjoys
going to the school's Resource
Centre twice a week to work on the
computers.
In science they have been
learning about themselves, their

This past month the Grade 7 and
8 classes attended the new Tech 21
classes in Listowel instead of going
to Clinton.
Also the Students Council
decided to have a Thanksgiving
Dance for Grades 5 - 8. The
Students Council was able to
purchase two CD players for the
school with the money they had
raised from the 1997/98 student

Filled with smoke
The children of Blyth Public School had the chance to
experience a house filled with smoke and the difficulty in
escaping when the Blyth fire Department demonstrated
with a fire safety house. The children were either in a
kitchen of bedroom when the smoke filled the air, then
were walked through the escape process by the
firefighters. Owned by the Intertownship Fire Dept.of Grey
and Bruce Counties, the house is rented to department
for educational programs. Funding from several corporate
in individual sponsors built and continue to support the
house .
