On behalf of myself (Gerry Lee) and my family we would from
the bottom of our hearts like to give Kevin Essex and his fam-
ily a big THANK YOU for all you have done for myself and
my family over the past eight months. I would like to thank all
the employees at Restview Retirement Home, Clinton, for
working so hard to put this benefit on for our family. The turn
out was tremendous. I would like to give a BIG THANKS to
everyone in Clinton and the surrounding area businesses for all
the help and kindness you have shown me and my family. With
everyone's support Kevin was able to raise $4,272.39. I would
like to thank Mery and all employees of MDL Doors, Brussels
for all of the support you have given since my illness. I would
also like to thank the Bachert family for the donation of the tent
and meat for the barbecue held on Sept. 19. We truly appreci-
ate everyone's help and loyal support.

Couple attends ceremony
Garner and Alice Nicholson
attended the fall convocation of
Wilfrid Laurier University on
Sunday, Oct. 25. Their
granddaughter Kimberly Wide,
daughter of Glyn and Margaret
Wide, Hamilton graduated with
honours in archaeology.
Also attending with her parents
were grandparents, Victor and Iris
Wide, Hamilton.
Dinner guests with Mrs. Mabel
Wheeler on Sunday were Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon Hill and Mr. and Mrs.
Bruce Keys, all of Varna, Mr. and
Mrs. George Cantelon of Clinton
and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Coultes,
Wingham.
Garnis and Florence Dowse of
Cambridge visited last Thursday
afternoon with their cousins Lewis
and Helen Stonehouse.
Dr. Tom and Mary Lockridge of
Nausha, NH visited Sunday
afternoon with their cousins Mait
and Mary Edgar of Petrolia and
Lewis and Helen StonehOuse at the
Stonehouse home.
On Sunday Mait and Mary and
Dr. Tom and Mary were supper
guests at the home of Harvey and
Audrey Edgar.
Marlene Fowler of Orangeville
was a recent visitor at the home of
Betty Irwin.
There were 10 tables of shoot in
play on Friday, Oct. 23 in the
Belgrave Community Centre.

Chamney; most shoots, Vera
Falconer; low lady, Agnes Gaunt;

On Wednesday, Oct. 21 there
were seven tables of euchre in play
at the Women's Institute Hall.

low lady, Olive Bolt; high man, Alf
Nichol; second high, man, Laura
Johnston; lone hand, Lloyd

Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 8. p.m.

Women's Institute Hall.

extended a warm welcome to the
72 members present at the Huron
County Women's Institute Rally
held recently in Walton. Sharon
Agla of Fordwich was chairperson
for the event.
The roll call was answered with
an unwrapped gift for the Huron
County Christmas Bureau.
The Huron County Scholarship
was awarded to Laurie Rodges of
Port Albert, who is in her second
year at the University of Guelph.
She has been very active in her
community, and in the 4-H
homemaking clubs. Erland
Thornton of Gorrie accepted the
Scholarship on her behalf.
The Huron County 4-H Club
reported 266 members with 46
leaders. Their projects have
included a battery blitz and a pop
can drive. The Huron County WI
will make a donation to The
Friends of 4-H.
The Children's Aid Bursary will
be continued, and a donation made
to help further their work.
Jean Wilson of Listowel
motivated everyone with a stretch
break featuring the benefits of
exercising. She had everyone
moving from the top of their head
to the top of their toes.
Helen Miller of Grand Bend,
Family Lifestyles chairperson for
the International Plowing Match
1999, addressed the Rally and
spoke about the Family Lifestyles
section which will feature five
tents; fashion, food, crafts, quilts
and child care. Marie McGavin of
Walton presented the new cook
book "Food, Fun and Frivolity"
which sells for $10.
She also displayed IPM T-shirts,
sweat shirts, and souvenir spoons.
The osteoporosis workshop was
conducted by Majestic Women's
Institute of Brussels with Lucy
Hesse, Kathy Bridge, Ruth Bauer,
Edna McLellan and Peggy Keffer,
presenting a skit "Bone Voyage" a
delicious journey to healthier bones
with recipes and bone-building tips.

greetings to the Rally. Jean Plaetzer
of Huron West gave the courtesies
and invited the rally to their district
in 1999.

presented Friday evening in the
Knox United Church.
John McIntosh welcomed
everyone. He sang a solo Until
Then accompanied by Elizabeth
Procter.
A duet was presented by John
and Chris McIntosh, Be Thou My
Vision accompanied by Lesley
Pike.
Walter and Mary Jane Hobden
sang My God and I and Love Lifted
Me, accompanied by Jessie McGee.
The Sonshine Singers favoured
the crowd with He'll Be Coming
Down from Heaven and Love Your
Neighbour conducted by Lila
Procter with accompaniment by
Dorothy Coultes. The Lord's
Prayer and How Excellent is Thy
Name was sung by Jillian Breyley.
Mary Coultes at the piano,

McDowell on the banjo played
some songs.

Women's Institute President
Wilma Higgins welcomed 16
members and four guests to the
October meeting.
The program convenor, Isabelle
Craig introduced the guest speaker,
Don Henry from Maitland Manor
Nursery at Bluevale. He showed
examples of many plants and
shrubs which can be used to give
fall colour in the garden. There
were several varieties of
ornamental grasses and ground
covers on display and he gave
advice on preparing plants for
winter.
The Christmas dinner for
members and friends will be on
Dec. 15, with Belgrave UCW
catering.
The WI Plowing Match books
are for sale at $10 each. They can
be purchased from the secretary.
New tea towels for the kitchen
will be purchased.
Several members were lutky in
the draw for bulbs and plants.
The -next meeting will be "A
Prelude to Christmas", with a
demonstration and making of a
small craft.
