Brussels Tykes
lose to Seaforth
Top runners
Local schools did very well in the Mite division for the annual North Huron Cross Country
meet held Oct. 6 at the Wingham golf course. Wade Stephenson of Brussels, centre back,
was first as was Christie Sippel of East Wawanosh, front left. Her teammate Lacey McArter,
middle, was third.
The Brussels Tykes opened their
1998-99 season on the road playing
Seaforth.
Seaforth opened the game
quickly scoring two goals in the
first three minutes of the play.
Seaforth, who have already played
games, seemed to catch the
Brussels players off guard.
Cody Subject scored on the next
shift taking a pass from Evan
Ducharme to cut the Seaforth lead
to 2-1. Seaforth continued to press
however and scored two more
goals to end the first period with a
4-1 lead.
The Brussels Atom Reps just
missed on Oct. 23, when they host-
ed the Hensall squad, which edged
them 3-2.
The score was 2-1 for Brussels at
the end of the first period. Neither
team was able to find the mesh in
the second, but some lucky breaks
Early in the second period
Subject scored his second goal of
the game to cut the lead to 4-2.
However Seaforth scored two more
goals to skate away with a 6-2
victory.
As the game went on the
Brussels team began to get their
skating legs and confidence. They
had several scoring opportunities
but the Seaforth goalie held them at
bay.
Ryan Smith played an admirable
game in goal for the Tykes.

for Hensall turned the game around
in their favour in the third.
Kyle Gibson had a solid game in
the Brussels net.
Coaching staff noted an improve-
ment in teamwork, but added that
the squad is still adjusting to body
checking.

The Brussels Tyke girls over-powered the competition at the recent North Huron Cross
Country meet held at the Wingham golf course. Capturing all three top spots were in front,
from left: Alyssa Ruttan, third, Amber Sellers, second and Mary Ann Aitchison, first. Another
local winner was Tyke boy, David Schlumpf, centre, from Grey.
