THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21, 1998. Auburn United Church celebrates anniversary A medley of gospel hymns provided by Nancy Park, Bernice Gross and guest musician Stewart Toll opened the Auburn United Church's anniversary service. Mr. Toll is well known here. He began his music career in Auburn where he was also a choir member. Rev. Paul Ross welcomed everyone and the responsive worship welcome was on "Faith in God" based on Psalm 132. The children were called to the front and drew a framed church picture from the mystery bag. They learned that this was the old church before this one was built. Rev. Ross read scripture from I Kings 5, where Christians were told to build a temple in God's name. Stewart Toll accompanied by the organist and pianist then played How Great Thou Art. The guest speaker for the day was a retired dairy farmer from Hickson area, John King. He is Study group discusses Paul, Silas The Londesboro-Auburn Bible Study was at Knox United, Auburn on Oct. 15 beginning at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Paul Ross provided the lunch for the day. The scripture for the day's study was from Acts 16: 1-10. Paul and Silas met the young disciple Timothy who went with them preaching that God's commandments must be obeyed. The churches then grew daily in adherents. Paul and Silas then travelled further to the city of Troas. Here Paul had a dream pleading him to come to Macedonia and they immediately left to preach there. Prayers were said before the members left for home. Bible Study for Oct. 20 will be on the second missionary's journey to Macadeonia in Acts 16. Belgrave UCW Continued from page 10 she received on the occasion of her 95th birthday. Mrs. Roberts stated how fortunate the group was to have three active members over 90. Edith Vincent conducted the Bible. Study continuing on with Matthew 13 and the parables. Mary Taylor was in charge of the Mission study and told how there were different churches close to do God's will. active in the Rural Life committee. He read scripture from Mark 12. The rich gave money to the treasury and a poor widow gave all that she had. In Mark 13, Jesus said that even great buildings could be destroyed. The day's message given by Mr. King was on remembering the past and dancing into the future. He told how his farm which had been a family farm for years had changed. He spoke of the roads being built and of the destruction of forests. He spoke of churches and how they too had changed through the years. However God is always present and people must follow his wishes, he said. Beautiful Isle of Somewhere was played by Stewart Toll and his accompanists. . During the receiving of the collection Mr. Toll and Rev. Ross played the beautiful old hymn Whispering Hope. Greeting at the church were Mr. and Mrs. Ronald McDowell and family. The UCW served lunch downstairs on completion of morning worship.
