F.E. Madill students earn awards, honours
Several area students were
among those honoured at the recent
F.E. Madill Secondary School
commencement.
Randy Armstrong received a pro-
ficiency award for OAC chemistry,
while Corey Newman was recog-
nized for proficiency in OAC
English. Rachel McQuail earned
the Grade 11 proficiency award.
The October meeting of
Londesboro WI was held on
Wednesday, Oct. 14. Lunch was at
The Wildwood Inn, then members
proceeded to the home of Darlene
and Dave Pullen, RR 2, St. Marys.
They have a market garden,
called McCullys Hill Farm.
At noon on Oct. 14 the Auburn
Silver Tops enjoyed a potluck
dinner.
Business followed the meal with
President Margaret Hildebrand in
charge.
The Annual Fall Rally will be at
Holmesville on Oct. 21 with dinner
served at 12:15. Registration must
be paid by the members and
treasurer before then. For the
afternoon Auburn will be
responsible for one number.
A negative vote was given to a
suggestion for a euchre party.
Finances will be met by a $2
donation per person at meeting.
Margaret Hildebrand who has
been a very capable president
resigned and Ethel Ball will be the
new president. A short program
followed. Two humorous readings
"When you reach 90" and "Lettuce
be wary of food engineering" were
given by Kay Lapp.
A discussion regarding the new
school plans took place. It was
thought that returning to the little
red schoolhouse might be the
wisest move. The present plan is
very wrong.
Some of the members'
grandchildren are already over an
hour on the bus twice a day. To
close schools will mean more bus
time. Then to have public and high
Pumpkin fest out
The Horticulture Society has
cancelled "Pumpkinfest" for this
year. It was to have been this
month but lack of volunteers has
brought an end to this occasion.
The Auburn UCW will meet at
the church on Oct. 26 at 8 p.m.
There will be a special presentation
of Hospital Visitors Programame.
Londesboro anniversary service
is at 11:15 a.m. on Oct. 25. There
will be no service in Auburn.
Newman was also selected for
the Jeanne Oldfield Memorial Arts
Scholarship presented for the sec-
ond year to a Brussels-area student
having high academic standing,
who is furthering his education in
art, English or music.
Amanda Sellers was the recipient
of this year's Stephanie Lee Henry
Memorial Award. This is presented

Garrett and Marklevitz Scholarship
presented annually to a graduating

gram, has contributed to school and
community and is enrolled in post-
secondary education in the techno-
logical field.
George Menzies Endowment
Fund Awards went to Andrew
Exel, Curtis Mutter, Kara Pepper
and Amber Ruttan.
The Auxiliary to Wingham and
District Hospital Award was pre-
sented to Rebecca VanCamp. The
award recognizes a graduating stu-
dent who has a sound academic
background, has volunteered
throughout her high school career

and is entering training in a health
related field.
The Huron County Award is
given to a graduating student who
resides in Huron and is continuing
his education in the agricultural
field. This year's recipient was
Adam Garniss.
Matthew Campbell was one of
the recipients of OSSTF 45 Bur-
saries. These are awarded to chil-
dren of OSSTF District 45
members who are entering their
first year of post-secondary studies.
OPP determine
The investigation into the acci-
dent in Brussels Sunday, Oct. 11
which claimed the life of Bruce
McCall has determined that he
failed to stop at the stop sign.
According to Senior Const. Don
Shropshall, an independent winless
said the McCall vehicle, which had
been travelling east on Mill Street,

honour students who have earned
three intermediate awards for
