THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21, 1998. McGavins greet at Duff's The Walton kindergartens studied the letter I and in doing so made ice cream sandwiches with chocolate wafers and ice cream. They also made insects with pompoms, pipe cleaners and googly eyes. The Grade l/2s are continuing to use their senses to explore materials. They sorted a collection of bark, keys, a glass bottle, chestnuts, elastic, rubber washers, plastic flowers and cloth into two groups, those found in nature and those made by humans. They also made paint prints of vegetable and leaves. The Grade 2/3s working on their plant unit made some leaf rubbings. Their writing assignment this week was 'Oh what fun they had at theSeaforth Fair.' Congratulations to Bridget Blake, Laura Bowers, Nicole Williamson, Jodi McIntosh, Laura Elligsen, Joel Dalton, Peter and Scott Murray, Shayne Cochrane and Scott Somerville who have been chosen to run in the cross-country race at Hullett next Wednesday. Good luck kids. Grade 3/4s also worked with leaves. They made leaf shading prints. Some of the children have also been eating worms and dirt. Well actually the worms are of the candy nature and the dirt is ground up Oreo cookies. They get to eat these if they bring back their planners that have been signed by a parent. For Fire Prevention Week Grey Township Fire Chief Gary Earl showed the Grade 4s a video and talked about prevention and what to do in case of fire. Brian and Brandon McGavin were greeters at Duff's United Church Oct. 18. Rev. James Murray welcomed everyone and opened the service with the call to worship. The junior choir sang and signed Come Lord Jesus. Rev. Murray then called the young worshippers forward where he showed them a tube of, toothpaste. He asked everyone if they were top or bottom squeezers. Everyone confessed to being one or the other. He went on to say how much fighting can go on over which way the toothpaste is to be squeezed. But the idea is to not fight and to recognize and accept that we are all different and worth loving and getting along with. The children then said a prayer and went downstairs to play Bible bingo. Rev. Murray's sermon was called, 'The Power of Persistence.' He had earlier read about the persistent widow who had gone to the judge for justice. He asked if any are to be like the widow or like the judge. "We can see God as the widow, for God constantly tries to find a way into our lives, seeking a way to be heard and taken seriously, no matter how hard our world tries to deny and shut God out." By actions, Rev. Murray said, the The regular euchre part at Ethel Hall was held on Oct. 5, hosted by Dorothy Dilworth. There were 14 tables in play.
