UCW gives to food bank
ANNOUNCEMENT
Dr. Douglas Norsworthy, Dr. Helen
Gianoulis and the staff of the Huron
Chiropractic Centre are pleased to
announce the addition of Dr. Anita Gross to
the Chiropractic Office. Dr. Gross
graduated from the Canadian Memorial
Chiropractic College in 1997 where she
was presented The Donald Sutherland
Students Administrative Council Award.
Dr. Gross has worked for the past 12
months as an associate chiropractor in
Simcoe, where she gained further clinical
experience. Dr. Gross will be accepting
new patients and she will be expanding
regular office hours to include Wednesday
and Saturday mornings.

The October meeting of Belgrave
UCW to Knox United Church was
held Tuesday, Oct. 6 at the home of
Muriel Coultes with 14 present.
Leader Barbara Anderson opened
the meeting with a Thanksgiving
poem.
Thelma Pletch and Louise
Bosman conducted the Thanks-
giving worship.
The roll call was answered with
"Something we are most thankful
for."
The secretary's, treasurer's and
card reports were received.
It was decided to serve lunch
after services only on special

occasions when Calvin-Brick
congregation was invited. Lunch
will be served Sunday, Nov. 29
which is White Gift Sunday.
Roll call in November will be an
item for the Food Bank. The
November meeting will be held at
Norma Moores home.
Sheila Nixon introduced the
guest speaker, Eleanor Ward. She
portrayed the woman from the New
Testament who poured precious
perfume over Jesus. A gift is an
expression of respect for a friend,
she said.
She concluded with an illustrated
poem, "I'll Pick More Daisies".
A contest was enjoyed.

10 Moms meet
Mabel's Moms met at their
regular time on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Those who attended were Karen
Rundle and Holly; Mary Jane
Hobden and Stephen; Lila Procter
and Jessica; Kim Higgins, Laura,
Ashley and Jarrod Logan.
Their topic was "Natural
Healing".
Playing games
There were eight tables of shoot
in play on Friday, Oct. 9 in the
Belgrave Community Centre.
Winners were: high lady, Vera
Falconer, second high lady, Jane
Grasby; most shoots, Freda Scott;
low lady, Olive Bolt; men's high,
George Inglis; second high, Garner
Nicholson, most shoots, Laura
Johnston; low man, Harvey Edgar.

At the Oct. 5 session, Morris
council requested further informa-
tion from the Brussels Fire Depart-
ment regarding a call to Lot 12,
Conc. 5. It was questioned whether
there is a charge for receiving a call
and not responding.
A letter from the Avon Maitland
District School Board concerning
financial reform in education costs
was endorsed by council.
Approval was given for road
access off County Road 86, at Lots
25 and 26, Conc. 1.
A Wheels Away schedule of
usage was presented to council.
The township cost is $158.69.
Clerk-Treasurer Nancy Michie
was authorized to attend the Min-
istry of Municipal Affairs and
Housing Annual Conference in
London, Oct. 15.
The general, road and Kinsmen
accounts, totalling $307,503.08,
$42,825 and $830.69, were
approved for payment.
The recreation account received a
grant of $14,000 for payment of
accounts.
The preliminary report for a new
municipal drain at Lot 27, Conc.
8/9 was considered at the Oct. 6
session of West Wawanosh coun-
cil.
After one of the landowners, Don
Gibson, withdrew his name from
the petition, it became invalid.
Those involved (Gibson, Jacob
and Anne Shetler and the County of
Huron) agreed to enter into a Mutu-
al Agreement amongst Landown-
ers, to solve the drainage problem.
Reeve Doug Miller and Council-
lor Stuart Alton declared pecuniary
interests with respect to a drainage
petition. Deputy-Reeve Walter
Elliott assumed the chair. Maitland
On Oct. 10 at approximately 2:40
p.m. a two vehicle collision took
place in West Wawanosh Twp. just
west of Whitechurch.
Police said, a 1991 Chev
Cavalier, driven by Dorothy Kelly,
67 of Burlington was westbound on
County Rd. 86 when she was
slowing to make a left turn onto
County Rd 22.
She was struck in the driver's
side by a 1992 Plymouth driven by
Miquen Tan, 20 of Stroud. The Tan
vehicle, which was also westbound
had, police said, come across
slower traffic and was passing three
other vehicles before hitting Kelly.
Kelly received serious injuries
and was taken to Wingham and
Engineering Services was appoint-
ed to prepare a preliminary report.
In response to the Ministry of
Environment and Energy's concern
for impacts on surface water in
Mud Lake and the associated bog,
council authorized Golder and
Associates to prepare recommenda-
tions in order to close the eastern
section of the landfill site. At that
time, a surface water impact study
will be carried out.
Council passed a motion to
refund Agnes Brindley half the sur-
charge ($60) on a building permit. •-
Road and general accounts, in the
amounts of $40,235.07 and
$242,663.80, were approved for
payment.
District Hospital by ambulance,
and then transferred to Victoria
Hospital in London where she is
listed in stable condition. Sarah
Brophy, 27, from Toronto, a
passenger in the Kelly vehicle was
also taken to Wingham Hospital
treated for minor injuries and
released. Tan was taken to the local
hospital and treated for minor
injuries then released while a
passenger in the vehicle Michelle
Nowak, 22 of Amberley Beach was
transferred to University Hospital
in London with serious injuries
where she is listed in stable
condition.
Police are still investigating the
collision.
Lloyd Michie was one of several volunteers on carrying-
and-carving duty for the 50th annual Belgrave Fowl
Supper last week. With over 1,000 people showing up for
the delicious meal each year, the carvers are on the job
for over two hours before dinner is served.
