PAGE 3. Co-op student helps out at Blyth PS Vandalism strikes entire community The senseless destruction of two signs along the Blyth Greenway Trail, discovered last Wednesday morning had village employees, volunteers and benefactors just shaking their heads. The Greenway Entrance sign located just of Hwy. 4 and the Radford-Scrimgeour sign for the fit trail were smashed from their posts. A vehicle had also run through the butterfly garden planted by the Horticultural Society, pushing aside huge rocks and flattening plants. 640 T-4"' By Josie MacDonald We welcome Leanne Haggitt hcrc, to Blyth Public School, as a Co-op student. Leanne lives in Blyth and attended our school. She selected Blyth because she wanted to discover, for herself, what it would be like to work at a Public School. Currently she attends school at F. E. Madill High School. Leanne isn't certain what her future career might be, but she would like it to have a connection with children. As far as her hobbies go, Leanne is the captain of the F. E. Madill cheerleading squad. She sings in the Blyth United Church choir as well as The Way Band (a group of people from her church who sing together). She also teaches a primary Sunday School class at the Blyth United Church. By Lindsay Nicholson The kindergarten class is happy to announce the arrival of two new students, Cole Wilson-MacTavish and Elijah Bailey. They have two classes that share the kindergarten room. One attends Monday, Wednesday and alternative Fridays, while the other class is Tuesday, Thursday and every other Friday. The students enjoyed meeting new friends and being with all of their old friends again, They told each other about their families and they made paintings of their homes. Kindergartens have been involved in fall activities. They have talked about the signs of fall, about all of the leaves that are changing colour, and about the leaves and seeds that are falling. They have been busy just like the squirrels collecting acorns, chestnuts and maple keys. They studied all of the different kinds of apples, what they look like inside, how they grow and how the farmer harvests all of the apples. They have also studied the colours red, yellow, and blue through stories, songs, poems, crafts, graphs and other activities. By Brianne Schultz The Grade 4/5 class has been a really busy group. For physical education classes, they have started with circuit training at the Greenway. They must have liked the Greenway because they've set a goal to visit the circuits once a week until Christmas (that is if the weather is co-operative). These students have been exploring the saltwater habitats and communities, discussing and investigating the similarities between freshwater and saltwater communities, as well as sharing many saltwater treasures brought in by the class. They're very curious about ocean creatures and arc looking forward to discovering even more facts about them. At the beginning of the week they started animal projects. The class wishes Alyssa Gross a happy birthday on Oct. 8. By John Battye The soccer teams played in tournaments held recently at Huron Centennial Public School.
