Nature walk
The Blyth Greenway Committee hosted a tour of the
nature trail in Blyth on Saturday afternoon. Despite the
cool temperatures there was fairly good attendance for
the hike along the scenic trail, to enjoy the wagon rides
and partake of the barbecue following the excursion.

THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1998. PAGE 3.
Blyth Scouting registration up
Registration for 1st Blyth
Scouting was held Sept. 16.
Already there are more youth
signed up than last year. The Blyth
Legion, Branch 420, and the Blyth
Lions Club are the sponsors. The
Scouting organization in Blyth is
grateful for their continued
financial support.
Meetings have already begun in
all sections. Youth, parents, and
leaders enjoyed a 'Welcome Back
Campfire' Oct. 3 at the Benmiller
Conservation Area to make the best
of the exceptional fall weather, and
to get the 1998-1999 Scouting year
off to a good start. Everyone is
looking forward to lots of hiking,
camping, canoeing, campfires,
community service, badge work,
games, crafts, new skills, and new
opportunities.
In order to pay for some of these
activities all Sections will be
selling Trail's End popcorn
throughout the month of October.
Oct. 24 will be Scouts Canada
Apple Day across the district.
Auburn, Belgrave, Blyth and
Londesboro will be canvassed by
the youth of 1st Blyth Scouting.
The support of the community is
appreciated.
Nineteen Beavers will be under
the leadership of Colony Scourers
Lisa DeGans, Betty Mallett, and
Ian Caldwell. One more potential
leader is to be interviewed.
Ten new Beavers will be invested
Oct. 13. The following week they
will enjoy a campfire meeting.
Twelve Cubs are currently
enrolled. Pack Scouters are Henry
Rouw, Allan Peel, Ron DeGans,
and Alan Young. They will be
working on the red and purple star
this year.
Several Cubs are eligible to help
with the Beaver Colony as Keeos
or youth leaders. A Keeo workshop
will be held Nov. 7.

Sixteen Scouts have already

To celebrate 'Hike Ontario Day'
they hiked eight kilometres along
the Maitland Trail, Oct. 4.
Oct. 16-18 they will camp with
many other Huron District Scouts
at the Huron District Camp
Property near Goderich. The land,
which was donated to Huron
District, had not been developed or
used for many years. Over the past
summer many volunteers have
spent a lot of hours upgrading the
property to make it serviceable.
Over the weekend the Scouts will
contribute their labour on the
project.
Canoeing skills will be tested
Oct. 23-25 at a camp in McKillop
Twp.
Eleven Venturers have signed up
this year with Mike and Arden

booth. The Venturers are planning
to collect pop cans as a fundraiser,
