Teachers, board settle tentatively By Tassi Edwards We are happy to welcome these new students and staff to Blyth Public School. Let's begin by introducing a new Grade 7 student, Amber Root. We also welcome Jordan Arkell who's in Grade 5. New faces in SK are Tyler Black, James Caldwell, Mathew Steele and Justin Straughan. By Victoria Jackson Clinton News-Record Staff The Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) and the Ontario Secondary Schools Teachers Federation reached a tentative agreement late Monday. Terms of the agreement, for the 1998/1999 and 1999/2000 school years, are unavailable until both sides have ratified the contract. Cliff Berry, chair of the OSSTF negotiating team for this district, said the Huron and Perth public working with computers in the early 1980'S when she taught computers to ESL students at Conestoga College and she took computer courses there also. Next she proceeded to work at a computer store in Waterloo called Compu Trend. She is enjoying Blyth PS and comments on the pleasant atmosphere, friendly people, and the advanced computer equipment. She is welcoming the new challenge of the computer network. Mrs. Jackson lives near Goderich and owns two horses, a dog, and a turtle. Some of her hobbies include canoeing, studying, camping, fishing, horseback riding, Tai Chi, and gardening. By Lindsay Nicholson This fall we have a new teacher for Grade 3/4. Her name is Mrs. 'manse. Mrs. Imanse has lived near Goderich for 22 years so she is not new to the area. Mrs. Imanse taught Grade 8 at Colborne for two years, then she taught Grades 4, 5 and 6 in Holmesville for three years. After that she was at Robertson Public School in Goderich, where she worked in the library for three years. She is enjoying Grade 3/4 very much. She thinks that the most difficult part about teaching at a new school is not knowing the students. She says Blyth PS is a pleasant school where everyone is very polite, so it makes it easy for her to adjust to the atmosphere. Her favourite part about teaching is the children. They are very eager to learn which makes her job quite pleasant. Mrs. Imanse's favourite subjects to teach are language, math and Help protect the environment Reduce, reuse and recycle Go figure! computer technology. Some of her hobbies are refinishing furniture and enjoying nature. By Lindsay Nicholson Bonnie O'Reilly is the School- Based Social Worker. She will be available at Blyth PS one day a week. She will be providing counselling to individuals, families, and groups, as well as giving some classroom presentations at times. Although Bonnie has been a social worker for 12 years, the school-based position is a new experience for her. Bonnie has children of her own and enjoys working with children and their families: She enjoys sports like basketball and jogging. Her favourite pastime is reading. By John Battye New year, new class, and new teacher! The Grade 4/5 class has a new teacher, Mrs. McGregor, who lives in Hensall. Hcr hobbies include reading, knitting and aerobics. Mrs. McGregor used to be an EA (educational assistant) at Blyth, Seaforth and Walton schools. This year is her first time teaching, and she plans on teaching until retirement. "I think Mrs. McGregor is the best teacher ever!" was a remark made by one of her students. I hope Mrs. McGregor and all of the other new staff members at Blyth Public School have a very enjoyable year. By Amanda Bearss Since our President Charlene Bromley, has moved away we have elected a new President, Kirk Stewart. The other members of the council are: vice-president, Melissa Black; treasurer, Andrew Toll; secretary, Laura Walden. All of these people in our school have an important job. We are looking forward to participating in many activities planned by our Students' Council this year. By Alicia Marshall On Wednesday evening, Sept. 23, Blyth PS held its annual Open House, where parents were able to meet the new teachers, explore the school, view the expectations of the new curricula and receive a schedule of future School Council meetings. Students and their families were also able to enjoy some gourmet hot dogs which will help to support the Grade 8's class trip next June. All in all, it was a very worth- while event and was enjoyed by all. VANASTRA CURLING CLUB Looking for something new this winter? ...Try Curling!
