THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 1998. bituaries WALTER SCHLUETER Mr. Walter William Schlueter of Brussels passed away at his residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998. He was in his 79th year. Born in Linwood, Ontario on Aug. 18; 1920, Mr. Schlueter was the son of the late Christian and Alvina Schlueter and the beloved companion of the late Margaret Lindner, who predeceased him in Jim and Elsie (Cook) Walsh of Blyth celebrated 50 years of mar- riage, recently at an open house in Memorial Hall. Some 165 friends, family mem- bers and neighbours gathered from North Bay, Sault Ste Marie, Lon- don, Mossley, Woodstock and the surrounding area to wish them well. The Walshes were married at Belgrave United Church on Sept. 18, 1948 by Rev. W. J. Moore. They honeymooned in Muskoka and points north. Together they farmed for 23 years and moved to Blyth in 1971. Walter was in the army for 10 years stationed mostly at Camp Borden. After leaving the army he took a position as a custodian at the collegiate in Pembroke. From there he moved to Kitchener to build homes with Alvin Bauman until his retirement when he moved to Brussels. Mr. Schlueter will be sadly missed by his son Keith of Killaloc, a brother Clayton Schlueter and a sister Violet Krcutzweiser both of Milverton. He was also loved by his many nieces and nephews. His brother, Harvey, predeceased him. At Walter's request, there was no land Valley Conservation Authority until retirement in 1985. Their marriage blest them with two sons, Murray, who passed away in 1993 and is sadly missed, and Don who lives in Goderich with his wife Brenda. Their daugh- ter-in-law Donna lives in Blyth. The Walshes' family has grown to include three much-loved grand- children, Sandra and her husband Henry, Brad and Michael, all of Blyth. The Walshes are members of Blyth United Church and the Swinging Seniors. They enjoy playing cards and spending time with family and friends. pie and a cup of coffee. A Legion service, under the auspices of Brussels Legion No. 218 RCL, was held at Brussels Cemetery on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. and was followed by the interment of Walter's cremated remains. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be to the Huron County Nursing Services or to Town and Country Homemakers. Walter requested that special thanks go out to his niece Ruth Shicll of Brussels who gave so much of her time and devotion during his illness and to Sheila and Tom Kuntz of Kitchener for their love and support. Schimanski Family Funeral Home, Brussels was entrusted with the arrangements. CORA SKELTON Cora Skelton, a resident of Huronview, Home for the Aged, passed away at Seaforth on Sept. 21, 1998. She was 95. Born in Morris Twp. on July. 13, 1903, Miss Skelton was the daugh- ter of the late William Skelton and Annie Sanderson. She is survived by several cousins. Two brothers, George and Albert predeceased her. Miss Skelton was a member of Blyth United Church. Visitation was held on Wednes- day, Sept. 23, with the funeral ser- vice on Thursday. Rev. Cecil Whittich officiated. Arrangements were entrusted to the Beattie-Falconer Funeral Home "Tasker Chapel". Interment at Brussels Cemetery. Donations to the Blyth United Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. JOHN DOUGLAS HOOVER John Douglas Hoover of London, passed away peacefully, at LHSC- Westminster Campus on Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998 in his 61st year. He was the beloved husband of Linda Aileen (Wilson) Hoover and dear father of Laurel at home. He was the loving son of Rhetta Hoover of Brussels and dear brother of Murray of Brussels, Marian and her husband Donald Eadie and Sylvia and her husband, Ross Gibson, all of Wingham. Mr. Hoover is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Glenn and his father, Norman. Visitation was held in the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Rd. N. on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. The funeral service was at Metropolitan United Church, 468 Wellington St., London on Monday, Sept. 21, 1998 at 10:30 a.m., Rev. Robert Ripley, Rev. Dr. Allen Churchill and Rev. Douglas R. G. Story officiating.
