Belgrave minister bases sermon on Jeremiah
Rcv. Mary Jane Hobden
welcomed everyone to Knox
United Church on Sunday, Sept. 6.
The children's story was, God
changes us and gives us a second
chance. Just as playdough can be
changed and made over, that's what
God does, said Hobden.
The sermon was based on
Jeremiah and the clay potter's
wheel.
Julie Van Camp was in charge of
nursery. Joyce Vincent and John
Nixon took up the offering.
On Sunday, Sept. 13 Melanie and
Scott Pletch welcomed
The September meeting of the
Evening Unit of Knox United
Church, Belgrave was held Sept. 1
in the church basement with 13 in
attendance.
Barbara Anderson welcomed
everyone. Laura Johnston and
Barbara Anderson conducted the
worship service taking the theme
"Acceptance". Jesus accepted
everyone the same and people must
do the same.
A contribution was made to
Wheels Away. Barbara thanked all
who helped with the "Over 80"
birthday party held in August.
The UCW General meeting will
be Sept. 24. The speaker will be
Alma Langford, whose topic is
"Living Life with Humour".
Sept. 27 is the North Huron Fall
Wilma Higgins presided for the
September meeting of the Belgrave
WI.
After the opening exercises Jean
Nethery introduced the guest, Milk
Shake, the clown. Each person in
attendance was given a balloon hat
to wear during the evening. Milk
Shake did some juggling and
mime, then asked Carl and Ellen
Procter to help with magic tricks.
During the business meeting the
minutes and treasurer's report were
read. The Huron County Rally will
be held on Oct. 5 at Walton and the
People
Doug and Sheila Cousins,
Brandon and Jordyn of Guelph
visited on the holiday weekend
with Ross and Barbara Anderson.
Bob Grasby returned home from
University Hospital. Friends and
neighbours wish him a speedy
recovery.
Mary and George Johnston of
Ilderton spent last weekend with
Bob and Jane Grasby and also
visited with Laura Johnston.
Kevin Campbell was a weekend
guest with Jeremy, Justin, John and
Linda Campbell at Grand Bend.
Marilyn and Chester Macdonald
of Goderich and Ruth Johnston
recently returned from visiting
Danny and Loraine Thompson,
Brae and Cale in Vancouver.

their daughter and her husband Mr.

accompanied by Elizabeth Procter.
Taking part in the recovenanting
service were Shawn and Chris
Cottrill, Kim Higgins, Lila Procter,
Ellen Procter, John Dorsch, John
McIntosh, Joyce Vincent and Lorne
Campbell and Andrew Procter.
The children's story was based on
a preacher's child. "Building our
community with each person being
a part" was the basis of Rev.
Hobden's sermon.
Kendra Moffatt was in charge of
nursery. Joyce Vincent and Joanne
Rally being held at Knox Church,
Belgrave. Alma Plante is to be the
speaker. She will talk on
"Persevering Through Faith".
It was agreed to host Sarah
Anderson's Christmas party, Dec.
6.
Norma Moore introduced the
guest speaker Joan Pederson, a
member of Friends of the Library; a
world-wide organization, organized
in 1913 in Paris, France. Wingham
library joined 75 years ago.
She gave an informative talk of
their purpose and work. They hold
a book sale and art show to raise
funds for library supplies not
covered by library funds.
She showed a video with
commentary by Dorothy
Cruickshank and Margaret Day.
London Area Convention will be
held in Kirkton on Oct. 22.
A donation will be sent to
Wheels Away and to the Wingham
and Area Seniors Day Centre. The
price of catered meals will be
raised by $1.
The next meeting will be on Oct.
20 at 7:30 p.m.
Robinson took up the offering.
Knox United Anniversary
Service will be held on Sunday,
Sept. 27 with Scott Pettigrew being
the guest speaker. There is no
service at Calvin Brick.
Lillian Campbell welcomed
worshippers and handed out the
service of worship at Knox United
Church on Sunday, Sept. 20.
The Old Testament reading was
taken from Jeremiah 8: 18-9:1.
Psalm 79: 1-9 was read
responsively.
Children's time was based on
feelings.

celebrates
• anniversary
The anniversary service was held
in Knox Presbyterian Church,
Belgrave on Sunday, Sept. 20
celebrating 134 years.
The service was conducted by
Rev. Cathrine Campbell. Guest
minister was Rev. Carolyn
McAvoy, former minister of Knox
Presbyterian Church. Her sermon
was "Sailing the River".
Soloist Cheryl Cronin,
accompanied by Hazel Dalrymple,
sang Beneath the Cross of Jesus
and In The Garden.
After the service, lunch and
fellowship was held at the WI Hall.
WMS meets
at Cloakey's
The WMs meeting was held at
Ivy Cloakey's.
Alice Nicholson opened with the
Call to Worship.
Ivy read scripture from Psalm
and Matthew.
Margaret Siertsema gave the
secretary's report and Ivy the
financial report.
Roll call was a bird of the Bible.
The Fall Rally will be held in
Brussels on Sept. 21.
Alice arid Margaret read a story
of God's care for the sparrows.
Lottie Scott led in prayer.
Fifth-three sick and shut-in calls
were recorded.
Ora Bruce read a poem "Pure
Love". Rev. Cathrine Campbell
closed with prayer.
Curtis Carl, son of Clare and Fay
Weber, was welcomed into faith
community through the sacrament
of baptism.
The Epistle lesson was taken
from Timothy 2: 1-7 and the gospel
lesson from Luke 16: 1-13.
Melanie Pletch looked after the
nursery. Ken and Don Procter rook
up the offering.
