Artist Jason Lucio earned 4 major awards Blyth artist Jason Lucio is maintaining the family tradition of producing award winning art. Fresh on the heels of his Aug. 8 Gulf South Championship win in New Orleans, Lucio has captured four more major awards in competitions in September. On the weekend of Sept. 11 - 13 Jason won second best of show at the 22nd Annual Louisiana State Woodcarving Championship. Lucio's entry was the elusive Least Bittern, a handsome and cleverly camouflaged inhabitant of marshlands throughout Eastern North America. Returning to Canada, Lucio displayed his plumage from Sept. 18 - 20 at the Canadian Wildlife Carving Championships in Midland, during the Wyemarsh Festival which attracted 280 competitors and an attendance topping 10,000. In a setting rivaling the bayou country of south Louisiana, the carving garnered three awards - first place for all species of water birds, third place for all types of wildlife carvings in the professional division and overall third best of show. Blyth may soon have a flag to represent the village at the 1999 International Plowing Match. The 1PM committee had asked council several weeks ago to sub- mit a flag to display at the event. When ideas for a community ban- ner were sought, no one came for- ward. However, at the Sept. 15 meeting of council, Larry and Laura Lucio Blyth councillors agreed at the Sept. 15 session to meet Sept. 28 to prepare for the all-council strategic planning day, Sept. 29, at Central Huron Secondary School, Clinton. The Lucio family is renovating the building at this location to house their gallery and workshops. Lucio has been admirably presented council with a prelimi- nary drawing of a motif which could be used not only for a flag, but as a banner along the Greenway Trail or as letterhead_ The design depicts Memorial Hall and the arch at the centre with a village streetscape and country landscape planned for the sides. Other ideas which could be incor- porated into the work include the site sewage service be 100 per cent user pay. The cost of complaint investigation would be borne by the tax base.
