GARTH WAYNE WALDEN
Garth Walden of RR3, Blyth
(Westfield) passed away at Wing-
ham & District Hospital on Sept. 5,
1998. He was 54.
Born in Westfield in East
Wawanosh Twp. on Dec. 8, 1943,
Garth was employed as an adult as
a log buyer and farmer. He was a
member of Blyth United and West-
field Churches.
Mourning his loss most deeply is
his wife the former Dianne Jackson
of Westfield. He will be lovingly
remembered by his children Christa
The Huron OPP Detachment
took part in this year's drug
eradication program with the
RCMP and the WRPS.
Helicopters from the RCMP,
National Defense and the OPP
were used.
This joint endeavour, aimed at
eliminating outdoor marijuana
crops before they could be
harvested and sold on the street,
was a success. Ground eradication
personnel with the assistance of the
helicopters and aircrews seized
22,000 plants in the southwest
region.
Huron County had 6,000 plants
torn out of swampy woody and
corn field areas. These plants on
maturity are worth $1,000 for each
plant.
The Huron OPP are grateful for
assistance from farmers, hunters,
fishermen and other outdoor groups
who called and helped to eliminate
the plants found in the area.

tie-Falconer Funeral Home "Tasker
Chapel" in Blyth on Tuesday. A
private family service with inter-
ment in Blyth Union Cemetery was
held Tuesday morning, Sept. 8. A
discovered at approximately 8 a.m.
at Brussels Motors on Turnberry
Street.
Sometime over the weekend
thieves entered the building by
forcing open a rear door, the OPP
said. The thieves searched the
premises taking keys for vehicles.
They entered several vehicles and
took a 1991 Chrysler Daytona with
a set of license plates.
The vehicle was recovered in the
Waterloo Regional Police area near
the Village of Wallenstein. It
received damage to the steering
column and other items inside.
Damage is estimated at $3,000,
police said.

On Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. a break,
enter and theft was reported to a
residence on Conc. 9 of Morris
Twp. According to OPP, sometime
overnight persons entered an

Mrs. Elsie Elizabeth "Betty"
(Saint) (Hoy) Upper, formerly of
Grey Twp., passed away at
Charlotte Eleanor Englehart
Hospital, Petrolia, on Saturday,t
Sept. 12, 1998. She was in her 77th
year.
Born in Wingham, on March 25,
1922, Mrs. Upper was the daughter
completely gone through, with
some tools being taken from the
basement, as well as a small
amount of cash out of the safe.
The investigation continues.

of the late Robert and Hanna May
Saint and the wife of the late
George Wilmer Hoy of Grey Twp.
and the late Andrew Upper of
Listowel.
Mrs. Upper will be sadly missed
by her children Nancy Coghlin and
her husband Bruce of Petrolia and
Robert Hoy of Kerwood. She was
the dear sister of Kathleen Sellers
of Cambridge. Also loved by her
six grandchildren and her four
great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Upper was predeceased by
her brothers Fred Saint, Ralph
Saint, Thomas Saint, and Joseph
Saint and by her sister Margaret
Burke.
Friends were received by the
family two hours prior to the
Wawanosh Twp. reported the theft
of 911 road signs. These two road
signs had the names of HOOVER
LINE/NATURE CENTRE ROAD
and SCOTT LINE/MONCRIEF on
them.
Anyone seeing these signs are
asked to call the local OPP
detachment.
