Auburn youth gets
major league chance
For one young man from the
Auburn area, an invitation to a
major league baseball prospect
camp was quite an experience.
Chad Foster, 15, along with
Goderich Midget ball teammate
Kyle Young, were among 24 young
players asked to attend an Atlanta
Braves camp in Windsor recently
where major league scouts were on
hand to watch the boys work out.
Foster was first approached alter
a tournament in Wallaceburg in
June. Not realizing it was a
prospects' camp, Foster said he was
surprised at the calibre of players at
the half-day session.
Though Foster and Young have
both played various positions
throughout their long baseball
careers, both opted to work-out as
outfielders.
Foster said the skills were not
difficult — catching flyballs and
line drives then throwing to third
and home — but still a challenge.
_ After the drills, the players were
told where their weaknesses were
and what to work on. Both still too
young to be considered for the
draft, they said they had a lot of
time to continue improving their
skills.
Goderich Midget Coach Dave
Clemmer said Foster and Young
arc "super kids and deserve a
chance".
They will have an opportunity to
play for Team Ontario next year.
Two of Mrs. D. Granges'
granddaughters of London visited
this week with her and Mr. and
Mrs. R. Worsell and family.
Mr. and Mrs. E. Lapp took a trip
to Fort Collins, Colorado to see her
only remaining sister Mrs. Lois
TamPlar and her son Charles.

Sunny, but solemn
It hasn't been a great summer for farmers, but decoration services at area cemeteries have
been blessed this year with sunny skie's and favourable temperatures. There was an
excellent attendance for Hope Chapel's annual service on Sunday. Willis Hunking was the
guest speaker for the day. He was introduced by Tom Cunningham, chair of the cemetery
board.
