Wilbees mark 50th
Golden years
A lot of good times were remembered when family and
friends gathered to help Ian and Elva Wilbee mark 50
years of marriage.
We believe...
in helping.
Anyone. Anywhere.

WARNING!
BE ON THE LOOK OUT...
School's back in session and
in the excitement of the new
school year, many school-age
children, especially the
young ones, may forget to
look both ways when
crossing the street or exiting
the school bus.
That leaves it up to you as a
driver, to be extra careful
around schoolyards, neigh-
bourhood play areas, and
departing school buses.
So remember...when you see
yellow, be sure to see red - as
in red alert. Let's all slow
down and give our children
the chance they deserve.
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS
1. Arrive at your pick-up point on time. Bus
scheduling is such that the drivers cannot wait for
pupils who are late.
2. Take you seat promptly and remain seated until
you arrive at your destination, unless otherwise
directed by your driver.
3. Hold books and lunch boxes on your lap. Keep
aisle clear at all times.
• Skates, when carried on a school bus, must have
skate guards or protective material in place.
Keep your arms and head inside the vehicle at all
times.
Never interfere with emergency doors/exits or any
part of the vehicle equipment.
7. Unnecessary disturbances (opening of windows,
wrestling, eating, smoking, obscene language or
any other form of misbehaviour) will not be
tolerated at any time.
8. Obey directions and instructions of the driver
and/or bus patrol promptly.
9. Refrain from talking to the driver while the bus is
in motion, except in case of an emergency.
10. Never leave the bus at any stop other than that
predetermined by school or parental permission.
H. Riding a school bus is a privilege! This privilege
can be withdrawn.

THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 1998. PAGE 7.
For Ian and Elva Wilbee on
Sunday, Aug. 30, it was like going
back through the years, 50 years to
be exact as family and friends came
and helped them celebrate their
special anniversary.
Friends from Cranbrook brought
some very famous people with
them for the event. Stomping Tom,
Charlie Pride, Dolly Parton, even
Elvis put in an appearance and
Willie Nelson performed for the
couple. During the singing of Put
on Your Old Grey Bonnet a grey
bonnet was placed on Elva's head
and Ian sported a top hat and the
happy couple were placed in a
fringed top surrey where they rode
off in style.
Neil McGavin was the emcee for
part of the evening and friends and
family all took turns helping Ian
and Elva reminisce.
Then came the music! It was like
being beamed back to the era of the
Big Band. Keith Wilbee played his
sax, Elva sat at the piano and
worked her magic and Ian sat at the
drums setting the rhythm. Then
people who played in the band with
them all those years filled in with
trumpet and saxes and the results-
were incredible.
It was such a prestigious event
Longtime
resident
dies
An old-timer of the Walton
community, Harvey Craig, died last
week in his room at Huronlea. The
funeral was held Friday, Aug. 28.
A special duet was sung by
Harvey's son, Graeme and
daughter, Sherrill. The luncheon
was held at Duff's United Church.
I am back from the wild west —
Vanderhoof, BC. It was nice to be
back in bear and moose country. I
did see one bear and saw moose
tracks. As usual the bear stories
were plenty.
Their weather is similar to ours
but not quite as dry as ours has
been.
UCW will meet Sept. 8 at 8 p.m.
in the church. Roll call will be
gathering ideas for ways to replace
the copper contest. Everyone is
welcome to attend.
Thieves get
truckload
of radiators
On Aug. 26 the owner of
Anderson Salvage reported the
theft of radiators. The theft took
place over the past weekend of
Aug. 22-23. Taken was
approximately a pickup truck load
of radiators.
Anyone with information on this
theft is asked to call the Huron OPP
or Crime Stoppers.
Help protect the environment
Reduce, reuse and recycle
that the Prime Minister picked out
four of the best Royal Canadian
Mounted Police to come to the
Wilbee farm to do their musical
ride. I use the word 'ride' rather
loosely here. People were laughing
so hard I was sure some would fall
off their chairs.
It was a magical night put
together by loving family and
friends and a night I am sure that
Ian and Elva will never forget.
Congratulations folks!
Farmer
finds
stolen car
On Aug. 30, at 12:45 p.m. a
farmer discovered a 1997 Pontiac
van, brown in colour abandoned in
his corn field. This vehicle,
unplated, was found to be stolen
from Kitchener.
Waterloo Regional Police were
contacted and the vehicle was
towed to a local garage until they
could attend to return back to
owner.
