John and Margaret Hildebrand of Auburn celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary with distant family and friends,
Aug. 15.

Garry Yuill is pleased to announce the marriage of his brother, James
Glenn Yuill to Gladys Elena Leon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon of
Mississauga. Their wedding took place on August 15, 1998 at Saint
Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Mississasuga, Ontario. Both
Gladys and Glenn are continuining their careers In broadcasting;
Gladys at the Global Television Network, and Glenn with his contracts at
CBC Television and TMN, The Movie Network. The proud groom then
plans to continue his studies in January at York University In pursuit of
his Communications degree. The happily married couple will soon be
settling down in their just-purchased house In Toronto to continue their
life-long celebration of love. There will be a `drop-in' reception at the
farm of Juanita and Doug Dale, RR 3, Brussels in the afternoon of
Saturday, August 29. Best wishes only, please.

Hildebrands mark half century

Ross produced a picture of his
mother and his aunt taken years
ago. He said they are both in a
nursing home now and spoke of the
things that his mother did when she
was younger.
The children's chorus was sung.
Scripture reading was from
Jeremiah I. God told Jeremiah that
he was to become a prophet and
speak to the nations as he was told.
From Luke 13 the congregation
was told of how on a Sunday,
Christ healed a crippled woman
and was severely reprimanded as
the day was the Sabbath. Jesus
replied that it was correct to help
others regardless of the day.
"Lessons About Life" was the
topic of the day's sermon. Rev.
Ross spoke about his mother and
her influence on his life. She was
an active young woman who loved
Lois Haines with her daughter
and son-in-law, Margaret and
Ronald Livermore, visited in the
West with close relatives of her late
husband, Donald Haines.
Congratulations to Maxine and
Bill Seers on their 45th wedding
anniversary, Aug. 22. No couple
deserves a happier future than they
do — just think of all the extras that
they do for others, and probably a

Based on a residential property
assessment of $100,000, there will
be an overall increase of $55.73
over the 1997 tax bill.
Taxes payable on farm land will
remain approximately equal to
1997 levels, taking into account the
monies received through the Farm
Tax Rebate Program.
Council indicated commercial
and industrial property could see a
substantial increase.
Expenditures for the 1998 budget
have been reduced by $74,000.
Monies to be raised for general pur-
poses has remained level with 1997
rates, taking policing costs into
consideration.
Huron County has increased its
requisition from the township by
$215,824 due to downloading.
Council stated that a comparison
of taxes for 1998 and 1997 is next
to impossible due to the amount of
changes which. have occurred con-
curently. Where there was once
three tax classifications, there are
now eight including residential/
farm, fhrm land, managed forest,
pipelines, commercial occupied,
commercial vacant, industrial occu-
swimming and horseback riding.
She trained as a nurse.
Then she became a victim of
polio. For some years now she has
been severely crippled with arthritis
and Parkinson's Disease. However,
she accepts this without complaint.
She is now a patient in a nursing
home and with faith, courage and
trust in God makes the best of
everything.
He closed with prayer that in life
everyone learns to trust the Lord
and to always follow his teachings
and The Lord's Prayer was said in
unison.
UCW meets
The Auburn UCW will meet at
Bernice Gross's home on Monday,
Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. Members are to
bring an article for sale.
Tuesday afternoon Bible Study
will resume on Sept. 8 at 1:30 p.m.
at Londesboro United Church.

ment were based on 1996 market

It took two yotes.to pass the 1998
budget for the township as the first
motion, for a budget of $927,291
was defeated in a recorded vote.
Reeve Bob Szusz and Councillors
Marg Anderson and Bruce Bergs-
ma voted against the motion.
A second budget, totalling
$949,291, carried unanimously.
In other business from the mid-
August meeting, council agreed to
stand by the agreement from March
4 with reference to the installation
of fencing at Conc. 11, Part Lot 21.
Road Superintendent Jim John-
ston was instructed to fix the cul-
vert at Sideroad 10/11, Conc. 12
and that the quote of $2.052.80 for
the culvert from E.S. Hubbel and
Sons be accepted.
A request will be made to the
Blyth Fire Area board to amend the
service area for the township to
include Conc. 10 in its entirety.
Lots 1 to 38 inclusive.
A public meeting will be held
Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. to discuss a zon-
ing bylaw amendment for Lot 18,
Conc. 1.

Hildebrand celebrated 50 years of
marriage with family and friends at
Auburn Community Centre, Aug.
15.
Wed, Aug. 14, 1948, at Knox
United Church, Auburn, the couple
lived in Jordan Station before
returning to the village.
Rev. Arthur G. Hewitt performed
the ceremony with Hattie (Wight-
man) Boothman as the maid of
honour and Eldo Wall serving as
best man. Carolyn (Mathers) Pep-
per was the flowergirl.
Mr. Hildebrand worked at
Packard Electric in St. Catharines
before buying the farm in 1959. He
retired from farming in 1993.
The Hildebrands have four chil-
dren, Eldo, Raymond, Allan and
Faye and six grandchildren, Marti-
na, Kristina, Grace, Andrew, Keith
and Stephen.
They keep busy as members of
Knox United Church and the
Huron-Bruce Swingers, a modern
square dance club.
Prior to the gathering at the com-
munity hall, a barbecue was h.eld at
the farm and a brunch followed
Sunday morning at Benmiller Inn.
Special guests at the celebration
included their son Eldo and his
family from Fredericton, N.B, sis-

Wawanosh landfill site on neigh-
bouring Mud Lake and its associat-
ed bog will be studied .
On Aug. 18, council authorized
Golder Associates Ltd. to carry out
a ground water impact assessment
at the landfill site, in response to
Ministry of Environment concerns.
The cost will be approximately
$7,000.
Council authorized Mr. Ostner of
White, Duncan, Ostner and Linton,
barristers and solicitors from
Waterloo, to act as council in the
ongoing dispute between the town-
ship and Huron-Telecommunica-
tions Ltd. Council had previously
agreed to terminate services with
the township's solicitor if no action
on the matter took place.
A bylaw was passed for the
adoption of tax ratios for 1998,
which result in $699,763 in taxes
being collected. From that total,
$210,000 are for the township,
$264,188 for the county and
$225,275 for education.
At the first meeting of the month,
on Aug. 4, council passed a motion
