and talked about what was wrong
in selected pictures. Don't move the
camera while taking a picture and
don't get your fingers in the way..
They also talked about how some
professional photographers prefer
black and white to colour and why.
They had fun outside taking more
pictures and closed the meeting.
$240 was paid immediately.
Arena Manager Murray McArter
said $600 worth of alcohol had
been stolen from the community
centre this year.
A Halloween dance is being held
in conjunction with minor soccer.
It was agreed by members that
the New Year's eve dance be scaled
down to a dressy evening with a
catered meal and lower cost enter-
tainment.
Requests from minor ball presi-
dent John Harrison regarding main-
tenance and funding concerns were
discussed.
McArter told members he had
taken care of the maintenance mat-
ters.
Accounts payable, totalling
$35,167.41 were approved for pay-
ment.

$1,300 security system

The Brussels No. 1 4-H Club
began their fourth meeting at Julia
Mitchell's house on Aug. 4.
Members answered the roll call
"who would you most like to
photograph". Then two 4-H awards
were awarded to Vincent Bauer and
Doug Mitchell for each completing
six clubs.
Members of the Brussels, Morris
and Grey board of recreation dealt
with security matters at the Aug. 12
meeting.
After reviewing two quotes for a
security system at the community
centre, a motion was passed select-
ing the tender of Innovative Securi-
ty Systems, at a cost of $1,295 plus
taxes.
Monthly payments of $200 will
be made until January 1999 when
the final payment is due. A fee of

dies under
hooves of horse
A one-year-old Howick Twp,
boy died Aug. 13 of injuries from
an accident on his parents' farm the
previous day.
Amos Martin was struck in the
head by, the hooves of a horse being
removed from the barn by his
father. The accident occurred at the
family farm on Conc. 16 of Howick
Twp. about 8 p.m.
As Manassah Martin, 34, was
taking the horse out of the barn it
was apparently spooked, knocking
over the child. Amos was struck in
the head by the hooves of the horse
as it pranced about.
The father took the child to the
house then went to a neighbour for
help since the Mennonite family
had no phone and no car. The boy
was taken to Wingham and District
Hospital and was air lifted to Sick
Children's Hospital of Western
Ontario, London where he died.
When it comes to cooking chili,
Brussels Reeve Ralph Watson is
hot stuff.
Watson bested eight other reeves
and mayors in the first annual chili
cook-off at the Blyth Festival, Aug.
6. The event was inspired by a chili
cookoff that is a key event in the
play Jobs! Jobs! Jobs! by Keith
Roulston which opened at the Fes-
tival that night. Fortunately for

in the Canadian Championships in
Niagara Falls on the July 31 - Aug.
3 weekend. Brampton won 5 games
and lost 3 games in this Slo-Pitch
National finals (SPM) and placed
fourth in Canada. Members of the
team included Dave Huether of
Brampton, Doug Wheeler of
Waterloo and Mike Thomas of
Brussels.
