From the Minister's Study Pastor shares productive insights By Les Cook Blyth Community Church of God Have you ever known anyone who was so productive they made you wonder where they found the energy or the time to get everything done? I have, and sometimes those people can be just a little hard to be around if you know what I mean. But there are people out there who are not only productive but also have character. They seem to get a lot accomplished, but you don't hear them complaining about being too busy, or not having enough hours in the day. They just have a lot of things they want to do and they go about getting them done. Prelude by organist Bernice Gross welcomed the congregation back to Knox after a holiday. Rev. Paul Ross welcomed all and told of the holiday trips, etc. that he and Mrs. Ross enjoyed on their vacation. The opening hymn 0 God of Bethel was followed by prayer. The children were invited to the front as the congregation sang Jesus Loves the Little Children. From the mystery bag was drawn one of A. Family visits Ireland Ethel Ball and son Daryl Ball went to Ireland for a family wedding. Other local members also attended. Dorothy Grange returned home again after another hospital sojourn. We hope that she improves daily. Mr. and Mrs. W. Wood and Mrs. Ledianne Wood of Brampton visited the Lapps this week. A UCW meeting was held after church. It was concerning a new refrigerator as the old one has quit. It was decided to purchase one. Gordon Gross and Maurice Bean were thanked for getting price estimates. Multiple SclerosisY (jArcSO, 1-800-268-7582 I once worked with a lady like that. Her name was Marylou. We worked at a nursing home together. Everyone liked Marylou. She was always in a good mood, always smiling. She was great to work with and she never seemed to run out of things to do or the time to get them finished. She was the only one I knew who would go out and play a game of golf after an eight hour shift of hard work in that hot nursing home before going home to take care of her home and family. Marylou bowled, played cards, grew a garden, was active in her church, charity work and anything else she desired to do. She completed these activities in the same 24 hours the rest of us possessed. Marylou had a Milne's books. In the story four characters went on a trip and deliberately lost a companion. However, he found his way home and the other three were lost. Scripture was read from Luke 12 concerning a rich man who built new barns to hold his large amounts of harvest and decided not to work. He thought of himself not of the needs of others. Second scripture was Hosea II. This speaks of Israelites who ceased to follow his orders but God knew that they would finally return. The hymn Great is Thy Faithfulness was followed by the sermon, "Surprise". Rev. Ross said one has to learn to forgive and forget — no one is perfect. "Life is not an abundance for oneself. In God's world there are others that need help." productive character. Most of us would like to be more productive (I know I sure would) but we are not willing to become the "nose to the grindstone, don't bother me I'm too busy" type of person. How can we develop a productive character, like Marylou, without burning out? 2nd Peter 1: 3-1 has something to say about this. Peter tells his readers that it is our divine nature to be productive. But he also suggests that in order for us to see that nature blossom, we need to work on it or as Peter says we need to put in some of our own effort to add to our faith. We need to practice our faith like an aspiring pianist, or athlete in training until it produces goodness or good results. To goodness add knowledge or a Doon, takes kids back Remember what playtime was like before video games and battery operated toys? At Doon Heritage Crossroads Aug. 9, 16 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. are Playtimes and Pastimes theme Sundays, where children of all ages can have an active look at games, toys and fun from the turn of the century. Bring your children and explore the life of a child in 1914 with a particular emphasis on 'fun' and leisure time. Games and toys, as well as other leisure pursuits such as girls' and boys' handiwork, will be explored. Visitors will be able to experience first-hand many of these activities. Horse drawn wagon rides, games and fun will round out these fun- filled family days at Doon Heritage Crossroads on the first four Sundays in August, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. deeper understanding of spiritual matters, and to knowledge, add self control, refrain from the temptation to brag or complain about the things put before us. And to self control add perseverance, which is the willingness to stick with it until "it is finished". To perseverance add Godliness, kindness and love, which means seeing more than just our own viewpoint and responding to that bigger picture with loving kindness, the way we ourselves would like to be treated. So do I suggest if we all follow this example we will all be like Marylou? No, there is only one Marylou. But Peter says in verse 8 that if we are developing these qualities we will be more effective and productive in our search for fulfillment.
