The news from
a on Campbell offers massage therapy
It is always nice to hear of new
businesses starting up. I talked with
Bruce Clark of Walton who has
started CMAC-Telecommunica-
tions.
Bruce had been with Bell Canada
for 29 years as an installer and
repairman. He took an early
retirement package, but decided
that retirement wasn't what he
wanted.

While renovations are underway
at Seaforth District High School,
students and teachers at the school
should not expect their new
library/resource centre until the
middle of the next school year.
"The bulk of the renovations (for
the resource centre) will be done
over the Christmas period to have it
ready for the second semester."
Janet Baird-Jackson, superinten-
dent of business and finance told
board members at their meeting on
July 27."
Earlier this month, the Avon
Maitland District School Board
decided to relocate most depart-
ments and about 60 staff members

Morgan (Sask) is in the fight of his
career to retain the number one
plate he earned in 1997. Marco
Dube (Que) wants his 1996 number
one plate back . . . but Jean
Sebastian Roy of Acton Vale, Que
is on a tear. After completing the
AMA supercross series in 15th he
is currently in ninth place in the
AMA 250 outdoor series. He has
won 11 of 12 motos in the
Canadian series he has competed in
but due to conflicts with the AMA
series he has missed two rounds. It
remains to be seen if he can
continue to dominate at Walton and
if it will be enough to clinch his
first Canadian Championship.
To provide all the services for an
event this size taps all the resources
in the local community. This event
is a major fundraiser for many
community service groups
including the Brussels Optimists,
Walton public school parents
association, Walton sports
committee, ARK drop-in centre,
International Plowing Match
committee and the Seaforth District
High School students council. In

the Seaforth high school.
The board approved both
renovations to the basement and
first floor of the school and a new
addition, which will include a new
library/resource centre/computer
lab for the school.
But because the board offices in
Stratford must be relocated this fall,
building the new offices in Seaforth
is the first priority.
The offices are to be completed
.by the end of October. The
resource centre will be the last
phase of the project and should be
completed some time in the new
year.
Baird-Jackson says the project is
"on track in terms of schedule and
on track in terms of budget."
The project, which is to be
funded from the proceeds of the
sale of the Stratford offices, is to
cost $1 million.

The ache in the muscles slowly
seeps away as gentle, warm hands
massage the tension into oblivion.
In an upper studio at Chauncey's
Hairstyling in Blyth, Becky Camp-
bell, a registered massage therapist
gradually works the kinks out of
shoulder and back muscles which
have resulted from lengthy hours in
front of a computer screen.
Or for the more active, a trip to
visit Campbell's can help loosen
muscles tightened by over-exertion.
Campbell not only relieves one's
stress while in her office, but sends
home relaxation and stretching tips
to help between appointments.
Some of the most common con-
ditions treated by massage therapy
is carpal tunnel, tendonitis,
migraine, tension or sinus
headaches and trauma from frac-
tures, whiplash or post-surgical
swelling.
Therapy may also relieve suffer-
ing in nerve diseases such as neu-
ralgia, multiple sclerosis and
muscular dystrophy; muscular
sprains, strains, cramps and bursitis
as well as arthritic conditions, lupus
and fibromyalgia, she Says.
Campbell, who set up her busi-
ness in the village a few weeks ago,
graduated from the Canadian Col-
lege of Massage and Hydrotherapy.

Campbell says her course work
dealt extensively with the physiolo-
gy of the body, what affects various
muscles, the inter-connections,
assessment and human relation
skills as well as nutritional factors.
In acquiring assessment skills,
Campbell says they learned to rec-
ognize serious illness, when mas-
sage might not be the answer.
Often, when the clients become
relaxed over the 30 to 60 minute
session, they may recall symptoms
or incidents which don't readily
come to mind in a doctor's office,
she says.
She is then able to to help identi-
fy specific problems or conditions
which should be discussed with a
physician.
From those conversations, Camp-
bell says she is able to create a con-
fidential record which can assist in
monitoring progress or aid a
replacement therapist.
Campbell is looking into expand-
ing her knowledge by attending
seminars which focus on perinatal,
postnatal and labour support.
With 2,200 hours of course work,
150 hours of clinic time and regu-
lated by the Canadian Massage
Therapists of Ontario, massage
may be covered under some health
plans.
