Proficiency in English award to
Michael Walsh at the Grade 8
graduation dinner in June. This
award is given by the Seniors each
year.
It was decided everyone would
remain in their offices for another
year so no election was needed.
The decision of buying the USCO
flag was deferred until another
meeting to determine if there was
space for it and if the Hall board
will give permission to display it.
The games followed, led by the
program committee. There were
lots of contests, action games and
brain teasers. Members all had fun
and several prizes were awarded.
The program committee did a fine
job and all appreciated their efforts.
The weather was perfect for a
picnic.
The next meeting will be Sept. 23
in the Memorial Hall with pot luck
dinner at noon.

115 participate in Vacation Bible School
By Veronica deVries
"God's love ... higher than the
Mountains; God's love ... deeper
than the sea!"
That was just one of the many
lines children from Blyth and area
sang enthusiastically at Vacation
Bible School last week.
The Christian Reformed Church
and United Church buildings were
bustling with activity each morning
as an average of 115 children
gathered to sing, visit, do crafts, eat
snacks, and most importantly, learn
about God's love.
The theme for this year's program
was Sonlight Island and the
Biblical theme was on I
Corinthians 13: 4-7 which speaks
about God's love. The lessons and
crafts centred around this tropical
setting and expanded on how God's
love is patient, kind, always trusts
and always perseveres.
Each morning students were led
in song by Deb Siertsema, Chris
TenPas and Brenda Sjaarda. They
were then entertained with a
dramatic performance by Dr. Sandy
Beachum (Jane Klasen), Buffy
(Kristy Klasen) and Sky (Jeff
Klasen).
The performance focused on how
Buffy and Sky became stranded on

Sonlight Island and went on a
treasure hunt. They discovered the
treasure of God's love which is
worth more than any amount of
gold or jewels!
Once singing and skits were
finished the students separated into
age groups and went to their
classes. Grades 2 - 6 went to the
United Church while Pre
Kindergarten to Grade 1 stayed at
the Christian Reformed Church.
During this time students
experienced crafts, a Bible lesson,
games and snacks.
Members of the Christian
Reformed Church, The United
Church, The Church of God and
the Anglican Church supported this
project through financial and
prayerful support.
Over 50 people, under the
direction of Sylvia Parish, helped to
make this busy week a success. The
volunteers did a variety of things
such as babysit the children of
teachers, teach classes, bake and
donate food and juice, do dishes,
decorate and help with crafts plus
much more.
A closing program was held
Sunday morning at Blyth CRC with
a potluck dinner following at the
public school.
