Durrell greets at Duff's Forthcoming Marriage Murray and Joanne Souch of Blyth are pleased to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Lori Ann to Greg More, son of Nick and Donna More of Grand Bend. The wedding will take place August 15, at First St. Andrew's United Church, London, Ontario. Forthcoming Marriage Betty Campbell of Brussels, wife of the late Ivan Campbell wishes to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Julie Anne to Stephen William Stratton, son of Bill and Anne Stratton of Hanover. Their celebration of love will take place at the Brussels United Church on Saturday, August 1st at 3:30 p.m. An open reception to follow at H. M. & G. Community Centre, Brussels. On Thursday, July 2 game seven took place between the Brussels U-6 Panthers and Wolves. Gavin Bowers began the duty of goalie for the Panthers with Blake Cardiff in net for the Wolves. Ty Sebastian started off well for the Wolves but came upon a good defense by Robert Cronin. Randy Zwep of the Panthers took off again for the Wolves end but met up with Nick Gowing for a great stop. The ball just missed the Panthers' net. Next goaltenders were Trista Deitner (Panthers) and Emily Kerkhof (Wolves). Kerkhof made a fast save but Bowers came back to get the Panthers on the scoreboard. Out on the field there was action with Jolanda Smith making good stops and Matthew Cardiff producing some powerful kicks. Goaltenders changed again with Cronin in net for the Panthers and Sebastian for the Wolves. Randy Zwep snuck the second goal in for the Panthers. Gowing took the next kick off with Zwep scoring yet another goal Belgrave, Ethel battle Belgrave Mite Boys visited Ethel on July 15 and batted their way to a 28-15 victory. It was a big night for Belgrave's Jamie McGlynn who blasted a first and a third inning grand slam. Also hitting homers for the visitors were Andrew Procter in the third and Trev McArter. Hot bats and tight defense were the key to this win, said Coach Patti Nixon. McGlynn also had a good outing on the mound striking out four, through innings one, two and four. He was relieved in inning three by Trev Hopf. for the Panthers making the score 3-0. Sebastian stopped a potential goal but Zwep ended the first half with another goal bringing the score to 4-0 for the Panthers. Panther Jolanda Smith and Cardiff for the Wolves started in goal for the second half. Natalie White scored the fifth goal for the Panthers followed by another quick score by #30 for the Panthers. Morgan Deitner came into net for the Panthers and Annameiker Kerkhof for the Wolves. Sebastian got a breakaway but came to a quick halt as Morgan Deitner changed the ball's direction. On Tuesday, July 21 the Walton Mite Boys played their last game of the season in Belmore, and won 13- 6. Walton started off hot, scoring seven in the first inning. The onslaught continued with Derrick Wolfe's grand slam homer in the third and a Blake Miller homerun The Hullett Mites stormed into Bayfield on July 23 and blew away the competition 18-8. Big contributors to the hot offense were homerun hitters It was a close one July 20 as the Ethel and Belgrave PeeWee Girls met in league action in Belgrave. The visitors were shut down in the first, then allowed five runs to cross in the home half. After notch- ing three in the second, Ethel was still down by two going into the bottom of the inning. This .was a Barb Durrell greeted worshippers at Duffs United Church on July 26. Following the scripture reading Patty Banks and Jim Cook, accompanied on the piano by Glenda Carter, sang Alleluia He is Coming. Rev. James Murray announced that the church is closed for the month of August. There will be a shower for Nancy Godkin on Aug. 24 at the church. Regular services will resume on Sept. 6. The sermon was called, "The Lord's Prayer". Quoting from the book by Robert Fulghum called, All I Really Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. Rev. Murray said, "All I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be, I learned in kindergarten." "Remember the Dick and Jane books and. the first word you learned, the biggest word of all was LOOK. Be aware of wonder." Next in goal was Jason Warwick (Panthers) and Vickie Blake (Wolves). The game ended after Kyle Bateman scored for the Wolves. The final score was 6-1. PANTHERS VS. WOLVES On Thursday, July 23 Dalton Hamilton guarded the U-6 Panthers' net against the Wolves. His defense was the pair of Jason Warwick and Trista Deitner. Forwards for the Panthers were Smith, Holly Sholdice and Zwep. Deitner quickly took control and narrowly missed getting a goal. in the fifth. Daryl Hulley contribut- ed with a triple and two singles, while Jimmy Dick had a double and a single. Nick Halley had a pair of singles to help out his team. Now waiting for playoffs, the Mites solid season ended with a nine win, five loss record. Anthony Wilts and Jon Merner, who slammed one each in the third. Sharing pitching duties were Eric Radford, Derek Dolmage, Joel Salverda, Josh Nurse and Anthony Wilts. big one for the home team which tallied nine runs. Ethel's biggest inning was the third and final one, but despite hav- ing eight runners come home, it was too late to pull out a win. The final score was 14-11 Belgrave Coach Mary Sanders said, "The girls played very well with only eight players." .Live a balanced life, he said, learn some and think some, draw and paint, sing and dance and play and work every day. By choosing to follow these guidelines as adults, life does become much richer and much more enjoyable, he said. One of his most important teachings was The Lord's Prayer. It is the prayer that Jesus shared with his disciples When they asked him to teach them how to pray. Rev. Murray then went through The Lord's Prayer line by line explaining what it meant. By saying The Lord's Prayer it can bring you closer to God. During the offering Patty and Jim sang In the Stars His Handiwork I See. The Wolves Sebastian got a breakaway and powerfully kicked the ball into the Panthers' net, though Hamilton did a fantastic job and kept his eye on the ball conslantly. --Next in net was Robert Cronin for the Panthers. Smith ended the first half in net with the score 1-0 for the Wolves. At the beginning of the second half Morgan Deitner was in the Panthers' net. After some fast action Jason Warwick took over. The Wolves really started scoring. The next two goals happened quickly with Vickie Blake scoring the fourth and the game ends with yet another goal scored. The score was 5-0 for the Wolves. The Panthers next game is Thursday, July 30 at 7 p.m. against The Bears. People The families of Val and Bill Shortreed, Keith and Gloria Wilbee and Heidi and Fred McClure all enjoyed a week's stay in cabins at South Lake in Mindon. Michael Craig spent a fun-filled, two-week camping stint at Belwood Camp near Fergus. With Michael away at camp Graeme and Helen Craig and her sister Mary from Vancouver, went to Haliburton for a family weekend gathering. While there the sisters went to Haliburton School of Fine Arts for a week. Helen took a course on making Willow Furniture. Mary's course was on making painted floor clothes and Emily, a third sister, did some decorative painting. Gloria Wilbee, Elva Wilbee and Doreen Hackwell went to London to attend a family shower for Janice Gregory. She is the fiance of Murray Sholdice. The WI will be holding a meet- ing at the Walton Hall at 7:30 p.m. on July 29, with guest speaker Donna Lunn. She will talk about family violence.
