Tigers beat Orioles, Jets, lose to Braves
In a warm-up for the year-end
tournament, the Brussels Pre-Mites
took on Ethel II, July 20.
After a quick at-bat for the visi-
tors, Brussels struck for five runs,
including a four-run homer for
Andrew Lindsay.
Lindsay was hot, blasting two
homers and a single for seven RBIs
and out-racing runners to first base
for the outs.
He erased two in the second, two
in the fourth and had a close call in
the third.
Brussels first at-bat got off to a
quick start with singles from
Christopher Becker, Dustin Lichty,
Brendan Stretton (RBI), and Justin
Pipe before Lindsay cleared the
bases.
Bradley Quesenberry and Mea-
gan Keffer also singled but were
stranded.
Ethel bats wound up in the sec-
ond when they singled in four runs
to draw to within one.
The table was set for Pipe when
Becker doubled, Lichty and Stret-
ton singled. One RBI went to Stret-
ton before Pipe belted a three-run
homer.
Lindsay and Quesenberry fol-
lowed with solo round-trippers.
Keffer singled but was left at sec-
ond after a fielder's choice by Cole
McLean.
Ethel was shut down in the third,
allowing Brussels to add to their
11-4 lead.
Alex Raynard led off the bottom
of the third with a single, followed
by a one-baser from Becker and an
RBI double from Lichty.
Stretton emptied the pads with a
three-run homer.
Pipe scored on a Lindsay single
before Quesenberry and Keffer
loaded the bases for McLean.
In his first homerun of the year,
McLean tallied four RBIs.
Down 20-4, Ethel took to the
plate for a last at-bat, but were able
to push in just one more.
The Pre-Mite year-end tourna-
ment, held in Belgrave, July 25,
was not as successful for the Brus-
sels squad. '
It came down to the final at-bat
when they met Ethel I in the first
game.
The Brussels Tigers travelled to
Goderich to battle the Goderich
Orioles and came home with a 13-1
victory.
Brussels started quickly by
counting three runs in the first on
RBI hits by Todd Uhrig and Doug
Conley.
The Tigers added one more in the
second as Conley wrapped another
RBI cashing Uhrig.
The visitors continued to score at
will adding one in the fourth and
plating six runs in the fifth on an
RBI by Moe Pipe, Uhrig and Mark
Pennington.
For the Tigers, Ron Strome was a
perfect three for three, with Tim
Fritz, Conley and Uhrig going
three for four. Uhrig handled the
pitching chores fanning five
Orioles.
Friday night the Tigers were at
home to the Lieury Jets in a see-
saw affair which saw a late-inning
comeback victory by the home
side.
Brussels hit the board in their
first at bat as a Conley triple cashed
Ken Higgins from first base.
The Jets knotted the score in the

top of the second and took a 2-1
lead in the third. The Tigers tied the
game in the fourth as Brian Niell

ball. Brett Clarkson singled,
scoring Greg Fritz. A Higgins walk
loaded the bases for Conley, who
singled for two runs making the
final 5-4.
Higgins was four for four.

Tigers whiffing seven Jets.

seventh but once again the Tigers
rallied late.

to centre. Clarkson kept the inning
alive, singling, as did Higgins.

The Tigers efforts fell short as
the Braves won it in the seventh
