Higgins descendents gather
Crashing down
It was a near miss for a car in the parking lot behind The
Blyth Inn last week when a tree came crashing down,
blocking one exit. Blyth Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart
said no damage was done by the falling timber
The 72nd Higgins reunion was
held Sunday, July 12 in the
Belgrave Community Centre.
Donna Barger welcomed
everyone. Sixty-five signed the
register.
Carman Farrier, Toronto and
assistants kept the young folk busy
with races and games. Pam Patrick,
Stayner, had prizes for the
youngest, Reece Vanhoutven,
(Gladys Haskins' great-
granddaughter); oldest, Alvin Fitch;
coming the farthest distance, Carol
and Joel Hawley and family from
Haiti and Colleen and Paresh
Athparia and family from Calgary;
the child with the closest birthday,
Stewart Higgins, gumdrop contest,
Laura Higgins.
Couple gets
surprise
A surprise dinner and party was
held on Tuesday, July 14 when 32
family and friends gathered at the
home of Bill and Muriel Coultes in
honour of the 25th wedding
anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Don
Stobo of Teeswater.
Attendants Mervin McAllister,
best man of Teeswater, friend of
Don; matron of honour, Muriel
Coultes (sister) and Elizabeth's
daughters, Susan (Cook) Barfoot,
Owen Sound and Kathy (Cook)
Warren of London were on hand to
welcome them. Linda Stobo of
Waterloo was also present.
Other family and friends attended
from Stratford, Waterloo, Chesley,
Teeswater, Brussels and Belgrave
area. After opening their gifts both
the couple expressed thanks to all.
Hullett
supports Clinton
At the July 7 meeting of Hullett
council, support was given to an
application for underserviced des-
ignation for family practitioners in
the Clinton area.
Council also advised that Hullett
Twp. wishes to be considered part
of the Clinton area and will not be
applying for underserviced desig-
nation on its own.
Drainage Superintendent Geoff
King was authorized to proceed
with repairs to the bridge at Lot 1,
Conc. 14, and -for the costs to be
split equally between Hullett and
McKillop Twp.
A special meeting of Hullett
council was held June 30 to discuss
restructuring options.
Council accepted a recommen-
dation from the North Huron
Review Committee which supports
the two-tier system and that any
decision regarding restructuring be
made locally.
June accounts in the amount of
$54,652.40 were approved for pay-
ment.

ROBERT ALLAN
McTAGG ART
Robert Allan McTaggart passed
away at Alexandra and Marine
Hospital in Goderich on Thursday,
July 16, 1998.
He was born on Aug. 11, 1918 in
Grey Township, the son of the late
Robert McTaggart and Ellie Mann.
On Nov. 23, 1938 he married
Phyllis Ward, who predeceased
him on April 19, 1985.
They farmed in Grey Twp.
before moving to Goderich in 1970.
He was a member of North Street
United Church, the Menesetung
Canoe Club and the Maitland
Lodge No. 33 AF and AM,
Goderich. He was a past master of
St. John's No. 284 AF and AM,
Brussels and the past patron of the
Eastern Star, Goderich.
He is survived by his wife, the
former Mary White-Hogan, whom
he married Sept. 20, 1986 and two
daughters Yvonne and Leslie
Knight, RR 3, Brussels and
Geraldine and Allan Siemon, RR 5,
Mitchell. He was the loving
grandfather of Jeff and Nancy
Knight, Listowel; Rick and Naomi
Knight, Richmond Hill; Gerald and
Twyla Knight, New Hamburg;
Angela Siemon and friend Jeff
Badley and Andrea Siemon,
Toronto. He was the stepfather of
Michael and Edda Hogan, Toronto;
Jim and Lorretta Hogan,
Vancouver; Dennis and Eileen
Hogan, London; Maureen Hogan,
Unionville and Bill and Darlene
Hogan, Calgary and step-
grandfather of 13 grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. McTaggart was predeceased
by a sister, Isabel Riehl and three
brothers, James, Fergus and
William McTaggart.
Visitation was held at the
McCallum and Palla Funeral Home
on Sunday. The funeral service was
held on Sunday, July 19 at North
Street United Church, Goderich
with Rev. Robert Ball officiating.
His eulogy was delivered by
grandchildren, Angela and Andrea
Siemon and Gerald Knight.
The pallbearers were Michael,
Jim and Dennis Hogan and Jeff,
Rick and Gerald Knight.
Flowerbearers were Carolyn
Freidin, Erin and Melissa Hogan
and Angela and Andrea Siemon.
Burial took place at Maitland
Cemetery, Goderich.
Donations to the Heart and
Stroke Foundation or North Street
United Church would be gratefully
acknowledged.

dance
at Walton
Londesboro senior dance will be
held at the Walton Hall, Friday,
July 24. Lunch is provided.
Muriel King, Stratford read the
minutes and treasurer's report of the
previous reunion.
It was decided to hold a reunion
in the year 2000 with Gregg
Higgins, president and Pam Patrick
secretary-treasurer.
A delicious lunch was set out by
the committee of Bruce and Kim
Higgins. Carman Farrier asked the
blessing and a moment's silence
was observed.
Happy 83rd birthday was sung to
Carman.
There is new work starting in
Belgrave. Countryside Baptist
Church with services in the
Belgrave Women's Institute Hall on
Brandon Street will meet
Thursdays from 7 - 8 p.m. and
Sundays from 10 - 11 a.m.
