working there developed the theory
of relativity. Mahatma Gandhi was
a very successful lawyer in South
Africa before he began his work in
India.
Each of these people had many
talents, Rev. Murray said, but they
did not stay with what they started
out to be in life. They felt a higher
calling, a greater purpose which
they felt they could achieve. They
'wanted to reach their fullest
potential in life, and use their God-
given talents to fullest advantage.
"As a result, our lives are richer
and fuller because of their
accomplishments. There are many
more people like them who have
influenced our lives because they
have chosen the better way."
Jesus is an example of choosing
the better way, he said. He left his

A barbecue was held at Phyllis
and Emerson Mitchell's for
Dorothy Sholdice this past week.
Friends and neighbours gathered to
wish her well in her new home in
Seaforth. Dorothy has been the
Mail Lady, serving the area for
many years.
After the meal Rev. James
Murray said a few words, wishing
her much happiness in the future.
Gifts were then presented to
Dorothy for her new home.
Phyllis and Emerson attended his
nephew, David Beer's wedding in
A zoning bylaw change was
deferred at the July 7 meeting of
McKillop Twp. council.
The new zoning would see Part
Lot 29, Conc. 1, changed to allow
for the establishment of a church in
a former auto sales building.
The Hoegy Drain bylaw was
amended to raise less funds.
Council endorsed the county
sewage system management plan
which would see the county inspect
all sewage systems until the end of
the year.
After a successful George Fox
concert held in May in Blyth,
Huron County 4-1-I is planning
summer activities.
The County Go for the Gold will
be held at the Clinton Christian
School on Tuesday, Aug. 4 at
7:30 p.m.
The judging competition is
planned for Aug. 11 at the Seaforth
Agriplex with registration at 5:30
p.m., judges comments at 6 p.m.,
and judging to start at 6:30 p.m.
On July 16, the Blyth Mosquito
Ills took on the Clinton Cougars at
home and defeated them 4-3.
Down three goals in the second
half, Blyth came back with four as
the final minutes slicked by in the
second to claim the victory.
The Brussels U-9 Ills hosted Lis-
towel on July 13 and in a strong
effort downed them 6-1.
Coaches lauded the team effort,
praising passing skills, working
together and strong defense for the
win.
Kristen McArter led the scoring
with two goals, while Jack Van-
Beek-Coultes, Shayne Cochrane,
Scott Somerville and Matthew

Windsor last weekend. David is a
superintendent in the RCMP and
will be going to Haiti for a year
working for the United Nations.
Other happy news for Phyllis and
Emerson was the birth of their two
grandchildren on July 8. Born to
Neil and Marie Mitchell of
Cranbrook were Emily Lauren and
Shawn William.
Edith and Campbell Wey are
enjoying this month with their teen
grandchildren, Karla and Cameron
Kale. They just recently moved
from Texas to New Jersey.
Permission was granted for the
Winthrop recreation committee to
apply for a special occasions permit
to allow the sale of beer and liquor
during a ball tournament, Sept. 5
and 6.
Tenders were called for the
reconstruction of Sideroad 15,
Between Conc. 3 and 4. The road
will be built-up.
General and road accounts, in the
amounts of $110,229.27 and
$95,959.16, were approved for pay-
ment.
New leaders for fall projects
should attend the final '98
workshop. This workshop is for
new leaders and those who have
not yet attended a workshop this
year. This final workshop will be
held at OMAFRA Clinton on
Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m.

Moore, Gregg Bechtel and Lee
Prescott with two.
Earning assists were Prescott and
Bechtel, with three, two on the
throw-in.
Goaltenders were Jamie Ross and
Jesse Hakkers.
Hutchison scored singles.
Goaltending chores were effec-
tively done by Cochrane and
Andrew Baker.
Mary Humphries and Viola
Kirkby were greeters at Duff's
United Church on July 19. Guest
soloist was Marie McGavin with
Marion Godkin playing the piano.
She sang One Day at a Time.
Rev. Murray's sermon was
called, "The Better Way." He
began by telling about what some
people did before they became
famous. For instance, Harrison
Ford was a carpenter before he
became an actor. Whoopi Goldberg
used to wash dishes in a San Diego
restaurant called the "Littlest
Kitchen." Her charity work with
"Comic Relief' has raised millions
for the homeless and has changed
the way the public looks at the
issue of homelessness.
Albert Einstein worked as a clerk
in the patent office and while
Joan and John Smith and Wendy
Clark hosted 14 tables of euchre at
the Ethel Hall, Monday evening,
July 13.
Winners were: 50/50, Ross
Stephenson; high lady, Shirley Ver-
stoep; high man, Charlie Harrison;
most lone hands, Jean Ireland, Mar-
ion Behrns,Violet Smith, Freda
D'Arcey; low lady, Donna Moore,
low man, Alice Sheerer, tally cards,

"thanks" for
the many good wishes and other
tributes on the occasion of my
recent retirement. It needs to be
said that I am extremely
grateful for the many
opportunities afforded me over
the last 31 years as an
educator, in various positions,
mostly in the Huron Public
Education System.
I will treasure the gifts
presented to me at the July 3,
1_998 retirement tribute in
Clinton - and will cherish the
memory of the greetings from
those who were present,as well
as those who sent dozens of
messages in other ways. Also, I
want to acknowledge the
donation being made in my
name, to assist needy children
in Cuba with medical and
school supplies.
Thank you for the real
boost you have given me as I
enter a new phase in my
career!
