Blyth council briefs Council wants inspection of tree damage Blyth council had no objections, at the June 22 meeting, to the Blyth Lions Club placing a beer tent between the two ball dia- monds for their annual slo-pitch tournament, to be held Aug. 6-9. By John H. Battye Grade 3/4 students finished a nath unit on fractions and learned robability. On Monday, June 22 they had a ncnic at the park, then had a tour )f the Blyth Festival Theatre's :ostume and prop area. They also enjoyed learning about L'anada, discussing the provinces, erritories, and Canadian symbols. Chey even studied globes and naps. They've also made posters and paintings for the School Fair in the all. In physical education, they have leen learning co-operation by rying many different activities vith the parachute. GRADE 6/7 EVENTS By Scott McLellan On Monday, June 22, the Grade /7s journeyed to London for their nnual class trip. For a few it was one of their first Imes being in London, but for iany others it was one of umerous chances to see the eautiful city. Our first stop on our trip was anshawe Pioneer Village where ,e enjoyed the old life of the late 9th century. The village that day .as supposed to be closed, but they pened just for us. Some activities tat we enjoyed were learning how make butter and soap at the Eller household, and another was vide the services until Dec. 31. *** After reviewing a report for out- side workers, council instructed Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart to bring the report to the attention of the PUC and advise them that a qualified person is required to inspect the damaged trees. * * * "No Exit" and "Watch for Chil- dren" signs will be placed on Ann and Dinsley Streets to slow traffic. * * * the old schoolhouse where we discovered how strict the rules were in the pioneer days. At the log cabin we were told how to fill a small cabin with light, and a visit to The Free Press building where we learned the jobs of certain employees and the knowledge required to perform them. After a perfect lunch we enjoyed an organized scavenger hunt. During this activity we searched for everything in the village from how many bells were in the village to the variety of herbs growing in a pioneer garden. When this was concluded we loaded back on the bus and headed off to the Imax Theatre at the Western Fairground. This movie took place on the.very desolated Island called South Georgia. The island is located near Antarctica and is home to hundreds of thousands of animals. Some species that live on South Georgia are the elephant seal, the king penguin, and the marconi penguin, just to name a few. This film explained the life, the adaptations and survival skills of all the animals living on the island. The next film was more for the motorist types. It demonstrated how to design and construct a race car, how to restore them, and how to test them.
