A Brussels employee was hard at work last week as they
began to tidy up a vacant lot along Turnberry Street. The
lot will be transformed into a park, thanks to monies
raised during the 140th Homecoming celebration last
summer.

K. Semple leads devotions
Brussels kindergartens had a
great time on their trip to the
Goderich museum. They saw a
two-headed cow and saw other
interesting things.
On the way home they stopped to
have lunch at the harbour, then they
were off to see the Dungannon
Zoo.
They made Father's Day cards
with hug-a-bunch sayings. They
also finished their ABC's.
Grade is also went to the
Goderich museum with the
kindergartens. They also took a
long trip to St. Christopher's beach.
The Grade 2 class made maps of
the classroom and the primary
playground. The Grade 1 class also
made some clocks in art class.
The Grade 3 class went to Africa
Lion Safari and saw all kinds of
animals like giraffes, lions, and
elephants holding tails. They also
saw a monkey rip an aerial off a
car.
They made Father's Day cards

A break, enter and theft was dis-
covered at Brussels, Morris and
Grey Community Centre on the
morning of June 15.
During the night, a person(s)
entered the building through a steel
door on the east side. Eight cases of
assorted beer and a bottle of Peach
Schnapps, with a total value of
$270, was taken.
The investigation continues.
The June meeting of Melville
Church Women's Guild was held in
the church parlour on June 15.
Kathleen Semple was in charge
of devotions, opening the meeting
with "A Father's Prayer" followed
by the singing of Father, Lead Me
Day by Day.
The scripture reading, Luke 15:
11-31 was read in unison followed
by a prayer. Jean Ireland presented
the topic.
Mrs. Semple read a "Tribute to
my Father". Mrs. Ireland told about
the origin of Father's Day and Mrs.
Semple read a poem entitled
"Father's Cap". A humorous
reading on 'When Ma is Sick and
When Pa is Sick' was read.
President Mary Carr opened the
business part of the meeting with a
poem entitled "Dad of Mine".
Jeanne Ireland gave the treasurer's
report.
A discussion followed about the
Maytime Supper which was a great
success.
On Sunday, June 28 there will be
no lunch after church due to the
Strawberry Tea and House Tour.
Several members offered to make
an angel cake for the Strawberry
Tea.

WI picnic
On Wednesday, June 10 a picnic
atmosphere was set at Ruth Sauve's
home. A relaxed meeting was held
with 13 members and five visitors
present.
Secretary Kathy Bridge read the
minutes of the May meeting
followed by the treasurer's report
by Treasurer Jean Bell.
Correspondence was read and new
business was dealt with.
A committee was formed to head
the birthday party at Huronlea in
September.
Delegates were chosen to attend
the county rally and area
convention in October.
The meeting was then turned
over to convenors Jean Bell and
Leona Armstrong. Several
household chore games were
played along with letter and colour
games.
The next meeting will be held Ole
second Wednesday in September.
The church will be closed for the
month of July.
Due to the Brussels Fair Opening
-falling on the meeting night the
September meeting will be
Monday, Sept. 14.
The roll call was answered by
giving father's full name and his
occupation.

Tom and Edna Pletch have just
returned from a week's vacation in
Calgary, where they visited with
their son Steve, his wife Barb,
daughter Alexandra, and new baby
son Ryan Steven.

The Grade 4 class went with the
Grade 3 class to African Lion
Safari.
They have been learning about
the human body in a game called
"The Human Body".
For their fathers on Father's Day
they made pop-out cards.
Grade 5s are very excited that
Thursday is their last day.
In French they are making pop-
out books and posters for the fall
fair. They will be going swimming
with the rest of the school. They are
also learning about money.
The Grade 617 class went on a
camping trip on Thursday and
Friday. They left at 9 a.m. and got
back Friday at 3 p.m. They had
songs and games by the campfire
and slept under the stars. They saw
fireflies and leeches. They also
made ecosystems with things they
found in the creek.
The Grade 6/7 class had a great
time and will miss Mrs. Whyte
very much.
Grade 7/8s are doing charcoal in
art.
The Grade 8s are getting ready to
graduate.
