Blyth PeeWees soccer squad banks 3 wins
The Blyth PeeWee soccer team is
off to a great start.
Though they won their first game
against Wingham Cyclones 2-0,
they didn't get into it until
Wingham scored a goal after the
Game three for the Brussels U-6
Panthers against the Sharks was
packed with action.
Jolanda Smith started in net for
the Panthers. She had plenty of
great saves, only letting one goal
get past her. It was scored by the
Sharks Scott Sippel.
Next in goal was Robert Cronin
who saw little action due to his
teammates great work. It was
during this time that Randy Zwep
sped into action scoring the first
goal for the Panthers.
Morgan Deitner then took her
turn in net during which Westin
McLeod narrowly missed getting a
goal for the Sharks. Morgan made
many great saves keeping the score
at 1-1 up to halftime. -
What began as a low-scoring
match turned into a slugfest by the
fourth when the. Londesboro
Midget Girls welcomed Seaforth to
their field, June 3.
Up 5-4 through two, Seaforth
jumped ahead by seven in the third
and allowed only three runs by
Londesboro.

the fourth when they blasted Lon-

whistle was blown. Unfortunately,
this goal was disallowed.
Then Blyth put constant pressure
on Wingham's half of the field and
finally Darwin Buffinga scored two
goals with Teague Onn assisting on
one.
After a much-needed rest Trista
Deitner was ready for action in net.
Her greatest efforts could not stop a
fantastic goal scored by Sippel,
bringing the score to a 2-1 in
favour of the Sharks.
Taking a turn in net next was
Gavin Bowers. He worked hard at
making numerous stops but, with a
mighty kick, McLeod scored for
the Sharks.
Rebecca Wilbee of the Panthers
got the last goal of the game. The
score, 3-2 for the Sharks was the
result of hard work and a whole lot
of fun for these talented athletes.
The Panthers' next game is
Thursday, June 11 at 7 p.m., behind
the arena against the Brussels
Wolves.
desboro with 12 runs.
However, the hometowners
would not be defeated and came
within one of tieing the contest
when they struck for 15 in their last
at-bat.
The final was 23-22.
Katie Snell, Amanda Anderson
and Meredith Collyer shared time
on the mound.

Blyth II on top
It was a tight game when the two
Blyth Mosquito soccer teams met
in league action June 4.
Blyth II came out on top of the 3-
1 contest, led by Gregg Bechtel's
two goals. Lee Prescott tallied a
single.
For Blyth I, it was J.J. Hubbard,
assisted by Cody Anderson and
Brad Bouman who stung the
opposing netminder.
garet McDonald, John Subject;
birthdays, Iola Subject, Allen
Edgar.
There were numerous lucky tally
card winners.
The next euchre is June 15.
Sympathy is extended to Helen
Dobson and family on the recent
loss of a husband and father, Bill
Dobson, a long-time Grey Twp.
resident.
Both goalies protected the net
with some spectacular saves.
On May 20, Blyth hosted their
second game against the Wingham
Warriors. This was another evenly-
matched game with the plays and
goals going back and forth. The
final goal of the game had Blyth
jumping ahead with a 3-2 win. All
three goals were scored by Onn
with an assist by Buffinga.
Bats were hot when the Belgrave
Mites hosted Belmore June 3.
Despite solid offense, the squad
came out on the short side of a 16-
12 score.
There was some spectacular
defensive moves by Anthony
deBoer. His aggressive play,
however, brought a penalty kick
'call against him.
Once again both Blyth goalies
did an excellent performance in net.
The Blyth PeeWees travelled to
Goderich to play their third game
of the season on June 3.
Both teams got a penalty kick.
Pitching duties were split by Trev
Hopf, Kyle Nixon and Jamie McG-
lyn.
Coach Patti Nixon said, "The
boys played a super game.
Ashley Taylor took the penalty
kick for Blyth and drove it right at
the goalie. Goderich's penalty kick
went wide and missed the net.
Sabrina Buffinga snuck a goal in
for Blyth in the first half to give
them the lead.
In the second half Trista Irving
moved from defense to forward and
scored right away then almost
managed to score two more.
Dynamites win
The Brussels Dynamites Under-7
soccer squad took on Newton, June
2, in a victorious effort.
While shutting out their opponent
Brussels players hit the net three
times.
Taylor Prior earned two and Ben
Gowing one.
