Safe cycling was the focus at the bike rodeo this past
Saturday held at East Wawanosh Public School and
hosted by the Belgrave Optimists. Cyclists, like Dalton
Delisle, were tested on handling their bikes on tricky
terrain, as well as hand signals and road rules. Their
bikes were checked for proper maintenance of brakes,
etc.

Brussels Pre-Mites taste victory
In an, exhibition game June 4, the
Blyth Mite Boys and Girls teams
took the opportunity to hone their
skills.
With the Girls short players, the
teams were mixed to even it out.
With girls pitching to girls and
boys to boys, the Girls side came
out ahead by 14-9.
Offensive leaders were homerun
hitters Ben Caldwell, Brittany
Peters and Justin Ritchie.
Blake Hesselwood scored in all
three innings for the Boys, while
Eric Caldwell scored in two. Others
crossing the plate were Ashley
Cook, Derek Youngblut and
Though they smashed five home-
runs, the Londesboro Mixed Mites
squad was out-hit by Vanastra
when they met, June 3.
Active bats kept the game inter-
esting as the score remained close
throughout.
At the end of two, Londesboro
was down 12-11 and matched
Vanastra with seven runs in the
Kendall Whitfield.
Darcy Cook got stranded on base
in each inning.
For the Girls, Brittany Peters
crossed home four times in three
innings. Ritchie came home three
times, while Ben Caldwell and Josh
Albrechtas were brought home
twice. Scoring singles were Jeff
Elliott, Katie McClinchey and
Adam deBoer.
Katie Stryker got on in three of
our attempts but was left standing
each time.

McClinchey, Cook and Albrechtas.
third.
With the visitors scoring another
seven in the fourth, Londesboro's
comeback fell short with only five
runs.
The final was 26-23.
Homers from Terry Radford, Joel
Salverda (two), Julian Bolinger and
Bradley Lapp aided the attack.
Anthony Wilts, Josh Nurse, Eric
Radford and Salverda pitched.
With strong offensive and defen-
sive play by Justip Pipe, the Brus-
sels Pre-Mites captured their first
win of the season, June 3, playing
against Ethel II.
Pipe led the attack with three
homers, pushing eight runs across
the plate.
Good stops by Pipe and an out at
first aided the effort.
In the first, after a scoreless top
inning by Ethel, a lead-off single
by Christopher Becker and a single
from Dustin Lichty put two on for
Pipes first homer.
Andrew Lindsay singled before a
base rap by Brendan Stretton.
Though thrown out at second, a
single from Meagan Keffer pushed
Lindsay home.
With Bradley Quesenberry on,
having singled home Stretton,

The Belgrave PeeWee girls split
the weeks' games as they took on
Belmore, June 1, and Brussels,
June 3.
When Belmore came to town,
they were prepared for the chal-
lenge as they struck for three runs
in the first.
Belgrave came within one in
their at-bat before taking a 6-3 lead
through two.
Belmore would not be put down,
pushing seven home in the third,
then holding the hometowners to
three, to take a one-run lead.
Belmore topped off the attack
with three in the fifth and kept Bel-
grave off the board for the 13-9
win.
The results were much better for
Belgrave two days later when they
took to the field in Brussels.
Bases on balls to Ashley North,
Lisa Black and Jenni Hopf, sand-
wiched by singles from Nicole
Procter and Kerri Meier and sac
flies from Charlene Bromley and
Michele Nixon resulted in five first
inning runs.
With Brussels only managing
one, Belgrave came back with two
in the second for a 7-1 lead. Black,
Meier and Hopf added singles with
a sacrifice from Jenny Skinn.
Holding Brussels to a run or two
per inning until a fifth inning attack
of four, Belgrave continued to tally
runs with five in the third and
fourth and three in the fifth.
Singles went to Hopf (two),
Meier, Nixon (two) and Black.
Twelve bases on balls assisted
Belgrave in their 20-10 win.

and catching game by Black and

win 19-14
Strong batting and defense put
the Belgrave Mite boys over the top
in their close contest against
Gowanstown, May 27.
Holding the visitors to only one
run in the first, Belgrave responded
with seven for the early lead.
Tieing it up at seven in their next
at-bat, Gowanstown allowed Bel-
grave to regain the edge with five
runs.
With Gowanstown pushing in a
total of seven in the third and
fourth, Belgrave needed their
seven-run fourth inning effort to
capture the 19-14 win.
Trev Hopf and Kyle Nixon
shared pitching duties.
left on base with the third out.
Ethel was held off the board
again in the second. Pipe aided the
effort when he outran a batter to
first base.
In Brussels second at-bat, Maris-
sa Pipe singled, followed by a
Becker double before Lichty earned
an RBI on a hit.
Though out at first, Lindsay sin-
gled in Becker.
Pipes second homer earned him
two more RBIs.
Singles from Stretton, Cole
McLean and Keffer loaded the
bases for a grand slam from Que-
senberry.
Down 13-0, Ethel began a come-
back with five in the third. Howev-
er, Brussels' bats continued to be
hot when Marissa Pipe doubled,
Megan Miners singled and were
pushed home on a triple from
Meier.

A base hit from Lichty scored
Becker.
With two on after a double from
Lindsay, Justin Pipe finished his
attack with his third homer and
three more RBIs.
A Stretton single was left on base
due to the 10-batter rule.
Ethel was held scoreless in the
final at-bat, due in part to a good
out at second base by McLean to
end the game.
Brussels earned a 19-5 victory.
