After the business members had more toe-tapping music from the musicians. The next meeting will be a bus trip on June 25. July 22 will be the picnic at the Lions Park. The meeting was then adjourned. President Lawrence Plaetzer called the meeting to order. It opened with the singing of 0 Canada with Alice Brothers at the piano. The birthdays of the month were Phyllis Mitchell and Hary McDowell. Hary and Ferne McDowell celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in May as well. A sing-song followed led by Vera Badley and Hary McDowell. Isabelle Craig introduced the musicians "The Old Tunes". They The 1998-99 term of officers installed into the Blyth Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion on May 22 are as follows: President, Bob Hillis; First Vice/Service Officer, John Stewart; Second Vite/track and field, Crystal Taylor; past president, Gord Haggitt; secretary, Robert McInnes; treasurer, Colleen Bell; youth education, Betty Mallot; membership, William Vincent; public relations, Mary Lou Stewart; Sergeant-at- arms/leadership, John Battye; executive, Thelma Johnston, Alex Blair, Susan Haggitt, Clare Dwayne Evans, an Ontario Works co-ordinator, spoke to coun- cil about participating in the gov- ernment program. Councillor Doug Scrimgcour said assistance could be used on the Blyth Brook Grecnway project and a motion was passed to approve participation. * * * A letter will be sent to the county indicating Blyth's choice to obtain police services from Wingham. All other municipalities which have selected the Wingham force were asked to send a similar letter. * * * Paul Josling came before council on behalf of the Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion and Hobby Association to inform them of the organization's wish to construct a 50 foot by 104 foot building behind the camping area, near the soccer field. Future additions would include 25 foot extensions on either side. Council supported the concept, in principle. * * * Due to the storm of May 31, the tree trimming budget has been depleted, Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart told council. Stewart was asked to have the outside workers put together a list of the work still required for review at the next session. * * Councillor Murray Nesbitt informed council that Chief Build- ing Official Paul Josling had attended an on-site sewage inspec- tion meeting. The Huron County Health Unit, along with chief build- ing officials will oversee the inspection of systems until the end of the year. *** Council will support Tom Cun- ningham's bid for a position on the board of directors for ROMA Insurance Program Inc. *** The second installment of taxes is due June 26. Stewart said he is unsure when the final billings will go out as there as been no informa- tion received from the province regarding the assessment role. * * * With the contract for garbage dis- Help protect the environment Reduce, reuse and recycle posal soon to expire, council instructed Stewart to seek quotes from Carter's Waste Disposal, Chamncy Sanitation, J. The PUC will be asked to split the $250 cost. * * * Nesbitt, or in his absence, Scrim- geour, will sit on the Community Access program board of directors. *** A letter of recognition for the two OMHA championship teams will be designed. *** There were no objections to a special occasions permit applica- tion for the Radford Overloads Oldtimcrs tournament, June 26-27. *** Council endorsed an application to Molson Breweries' Local Hero program, to seek funds for the fit trail along the Blyth Brook Com- munity Grecnway. Blyth People Jim and Audrey Timpany of Aylmer visited on Sunday with Gene and Alvin Snell. They made a delicious birthday supper for Gene.
