Blyth PS news Grade 3s study les fleurs et les insectes By Dane Cornell In French, Grades 3, 4 and 5 students have been studying les fleurs, les insectes et des mots du printemps. After publishing booklets about things they see, hear, and feel in spring, they held spelling competitions using these new words. The winning team in Grade 3/4 was Les Chiens Inuits and in Grade 4/5 the winners were Les Panthdres. One day at noon this week these two teams will have a spell-off. Bonne chance! Grade 6/7 is working on booklets about "collections." When they are completed, the students will present them to the class "en francais." TRACK RESULTS By Alicia Marshall On May 19, Blyth Public School held their annual track and field meet. The people who won in their divisions were: Midgets — first, Josh Albrechtas; second, Darcey Cook; third, Adam Young; first, Kerissa Van Amersfoort; second, Brittney Peters; third, Jenna Rinn. Juniors — first, Justin Peters; second, Raymond deBoer; third, Korey Machan; first, (tie) Michelle Cook, Jenna Taylor; second, Meagan Campbell; third, Lisa Baarda. Intermediates — first, Cole Stewart; second, Jesse Hakkers; third, (tie) Kirk Stewart, Micah Loder; first, (tie) Charlene Bromley, Candi Bearss; second, Veronica Edwards; third, Courtney Bakkcr. Seniors — first, Andrew Toll; second Steven Empey; third, Devin Shannon; first, Jamie Lewis; second, Ashley Taylor; third, Sonya Schultz. The events involved in thi,s activity are 100 metre, 200 metre, 400 metre, and 800 metre running events, high jump, running long jump, standing long jump, softball throw, shot put, and triple jump. By Scott McLellan For the last while the Grade 2/3s have been experiencing the theme, dinosaurs. A trip to the Stratford Museum is planned for June 4 to take part in a fossil program. They are also writing stories, singing songs, and finding eggs to go along with this unit. In math they are learning how to tell time, and working on measurement dealing with mass. They're learning' how to graph their weight and the Grade 3s are studying fractions. The Grade 3s are taking part in the EQAO testing, so the Grade 2s and 4s have been with Mrs. Grail until they're finished. Another project for Grades 2 and 4 students is to construct a small vehicle! For gym they are playing with the parachute, practising track and field events, running races, and playing dodge ball. JK/SK By Katelyn !inner JK/SK is hard at work trying to end off the school year right, with all their work completed. JK/SK students are continuing to learn about sounds and the actions of the alphabet letters. They went to see Charlotte's Web at the Blyth Memorial Hall and painted pictures of their favourite parts of the play. They also enjoyed the play day activities which were held on Thursday, May 28. They are still busy having their pledge sheets signed for the Walkathon on June 2 to raise money for the new computers for the school. Brussels PS news Students buy gum license Help protect the environment Reduce Reuse Recycle By Andrew Smith and Kendall Jutzi This Friday at Brussels Public School the student council organized a Gum Day. The students bought a license and a piece of gum for 25 cents. The kindergarten classes had a Teddy Bear Picnic. The A class had theirs on Wednesday and the B class on Thursday. They ate snacks and lunch outside with their teddy bears. Each child's bear had to have a name tag. They watched the movie the The Teddy Bear Picnic. They have Gideon a new computer program called "Jump Start to Kindergarten", thanks to Matthew Cardiff's mom. This week in Grade 1 they are talking about the three little pigs. The study is actually about fairy tales. On Tuesday they ate lunch outside. In reading buddies they are making people on paper. In Grade 2 this week they did fractions with pizza. In art they made butterfly books. They made mosaic fish out of paper. They are now practising their relays for Howick. Grade 3 testing was this past week. They also started selling popsicles on Wednesday. Grade 4s had a French test and a Canada test. They have started studying the human body and finished up their book reports. Grade 5s started writing creative paragraphs for the fall fair. On Monday they are choosing their instruments for next year. Grade 6/7s have started to write in their response journals. Mrs. Whyte will read them in a Reader's Digest story and they have to write a response. They made paper mache masks. Four copies of their writing assignment are due on Monday. The Grade 6s have finished up their family tree's for Canadian studies. In art, Grade 7/8s drew faces, wearing some sort of gesture. They are having a math test on Monday on the work that they did last week. They had a French test given by Mme Ringette on adjectives. The grade 8s have started their backboards.
