Elizabeth Procter played organ prelude music. The congregation sang This Is My Fathers World and Spirit of the Living God. The gospel lesson was taken from John 14: 8-17, and 25-27. The children's story was entitled "The Spirit in Me". Rev. Jane Hobden asked the children "What is Pentecost?" A candle reminds of wind — God's breath, she said. A On Wednesday, May 27 there were 12 tables of euchre in play at the Women's Institute Hall. WI members attend district annual 12 tables in play at euchre The 98th Huron West District Women's Institute annual meeting was held Monday, May 25 in the United Church, Dungannon. Elmira Finnigan welcomed the 55 attending. District President Jean Plaetzer presided with Reta Kelland, secretary-treasurer. The Ratification of District Directors was conducted by Donna Willows, St. Pauls; board director for District 23. Each branch, Auburn, Belgrave, Dungannon, Londesboro, Maitland and St. Helen's has three voting delegates. President of 4-H Marie Salm reported on the activities in Huron County. Recycling pop cans is a fundraiser. The George Fox concert was a huge success. Gladys Egleton brought greetings from the London area and called attention to the fact that 90 per cent of disabled women are abused. Isabelle Craig introduced the afternoon's guest speaker, Marguerite Thomas, Brussels. Mrs. Thomas, a public health nurse, works out of the Clinton office. She gave a presentation on injury prevention and early detection and prevention of cancer. Public Relations Officer, Wilma The UCW general meeting was held on Thursday evening, May 21 in the church basement. Louise Bosman introduced the guest speaker Nancy Daer. She showed slides and talked on points of interest regarding her trip to Europe last summer. The business portion of the meeting was led by Ruth Gordon. Nancy Folkard and Doreen Higgins reported 112 members in Huron West and 8,149 volunteer hours. Supplies to promote Women's Institute can be ordered from the Guelph Headquarters Office. • Tina Empey gave the curator's report. The Historical meeting will be held in Dashwood Aug. 6. Program Co-ordinator Marjorie Anderson reported the branches have had a busy and interesting year. The Fall workshop will include a Christmas angel, fabric cover lampshade, paper-piece quilting and pop bottle elves. Donna Willows installed the slate of officers. Due to a surplus of 100th anniversary plates, a raffle was held. The plate netted the Provincial office $55. Mary Hunter was the winner. Mabel Jacklin expressed appreciation for a great day and invited everyone to Maitland in 1999. Belgrave WI members included Jean Nethery, Isabelle Craig, Nancy Jardin, Audrey Fenton, Wilma Higgins, Mary Hunter, Norma Moore and Gladys Van Camp. Marks were in charge of the worship service. It dealt with everything being used wisely and thus being good caretakers of all that has been provided. Donna Shaw and Linda Campbell took up the offering. A poem "The Things That Count" was read.
