It has been one busy week for
staff and students at Walton Public
School. The week began with Kyle
Griffith's uncle, Officer Allan
Dickson and his dog Kane, from
the Kitchener/Waterloo canine unit,
giving demonstrations on what his
dog can do.
Kane is from the Czech Republic
and has been with the officer for
three years now. They both had to
go into training together for 15
weeks. The children were amazed
as the dog would sniff out and find
certain objects that the officer
would throw out into the field.
With the dog on his leash Officer
Dickson showed how the dog was
trained to attack on command.
After the demonstrations the
officer answered questions.
Then it was time for 'Kids on the
Block' puppet show. The program
is sponsored by the Huron County
Community Child Abuse Co-
ordinating Committee, and fully
sponsored by the boards of
education and the Children's Aid
Society of Huron County.
The program is intended to
provide children with the informa-
tion they need to help keep them
•safe. It provides a non-threatening
approach to the issue of child abuse
and provides very positive,
supportive messages to children.
The puppets names were Steven,
Joanne and Nam.
Friday was track and field day
with helpers Geoff Banks, Patty
Querengesser, Gerrid Dalton, Sarah
Williamson and Shane McClure, all
Grade 7 students from Seaforth
Public School (previous graduates
from Walton).
Children going on to the Seaforth
Regional Track and Field Meet on
May 29 are Steven McNichol, Adam
McClure, Greg Bowers, Mitch Blake,
Shayne Cochrane, Blake Miller,
Chris Holmes, Kevin Hood, Claire
Mastnak, Crystal Gibbons, Katie
Williamson, Andrea VanderVeen,
Laura Elligsen, Marcie McClure.
To friends, family
& customers:
Good friends & customers
have been the key,
To all these years in the
community,
We've been in business but
as May 30 nears,
We'll be closing the doors
after 14 years.
We want to say a big
THANKS to all of you,
Who have been our good
customers & friends too,
To those of you who've left
things at our place,
You have 'til May 30 to get it
out of our face.
It's time for us to move on
you see,
We're going to Alberta where
Cowboy Pete'll be,
Leaving family & friends will
be hard to do,
But we have a dream we
must pursue.
Now as we go to give it a try,
It won't be easy, we'll both
likely cry,
And if we don't like it you
never know,
We may come back or find
some place else to go.
We feel the time will never be
better,
So we bid you farewell with
this letter,
We'll be back to visit now &
again,
But if you're ever out that
way stop in.
Thanks again,
Pete & Joanne deJong
