Clinton Pipe Band seeks new members Music, music, music Love abounded at Blyth Memorial Hall this past weekend as the Blyth Festival Singers presented a concert Love in 3/4 Time this past Saturday afternoon and evening. The performance featured compositions by Brahms, and was highlighted by readings from actor Eric Coates. Brussels PS news Kdgns. make teddy bears By Rachel Elliott and Elyse Wilkinson Kindergartens made paper teddy bears with Grade 6 this week. Grade ls learned how to read and write the word soccer. They made medals in French for Mother's Day. In Gym Ms Mcdonald is teaching them how to use the high jump. They are doing well. In math Grade 2s are learning about symmetry. They also planted bean plants in the front garden. For Mother's Day they made angels and a booklet to go with them. In gym they are practising their high jump skills and in music they are learning the Celebrate You and Me theme from the Spring concert and the Lost My Homework song sung by the choir. For Mother's Day Grade 3 students made swans with flowers and cards to go with them. In the outside world they caught snails and one of the children brought tadpoles. In gym they are running the track and practising track and field and they have a new girl in their class called Beckie Grummet. In French Grade 4s made cards for Mother's Day and wind chimes. In addition, MedicAlert is launching a comprehensive campaign of public service announcements. Established in 1961, MedicAlert is a registered Canadian charity that provides first responders and health care professionals instant access to reliable personal and medical information. whatever subject they wanted and when they were done they hung them out in the hall. In gym they are doing track events. For math they are measuring sand. They started doing tree posters and next week they are going to start book reports. In Canadian studies they are doing a booklet on Canada. In French Grade 5 did a Mother's Day crossword puzzle. For environmental studies they are doing things about flight and flying. They made paper airplanes and in math they are doing division with decimals. In music they are learning how to play the recorders. They are also practising their skills for track and field.. In writing they are doing plays. Grade 6s made baskets for mother and in French they made cards to go' with them. The Grade 7s and 8s went to Quebec with Mr. Morton, Mrs. Regier, Madame Anguish and Mrs. Whyte. In gym they did Bordenball with Mr. Teall and also practised track and field events. The skirl of the pipes and the pounding of the drums may soon emanate from Clinton Royal Cana- dian Legion with a new and invigo- rated sound. A tradition in Huron County for more than 50 years, the Clinton Legion Pipe Band is seeking new members to join their ranks. Veterans of the kilted band and newcomers alike have the pleasure of learning under the leadership of renowned John T. MacKenzie, a professional piper who began his career with the Scots Guard and most recently has been working with the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Board of Education on the secondary school piping credit. The Clinton Legion Pipe Band invites anyone interested in learn- ing to play the pipes to contact Band President Geoff Peach at 519- 523-4929. Practices are held at the Legion, Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. MacKenzie will hold his first ses- sion May 20. Doon sells plants Have you ever eaten a 100-year- old tomato? You can have your chance this summer thanks to the Friends of Doon Heritage Crossroads. The volunteer group is holding a plant sale at Doon Heritage Crossroads on Sunday and Monday, May 17 and 18 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On sale, will be heritage annuals, vegetables and herbs, that are growing in the gardens of the recreated historic village and are the same varieties that flourished in Waterloo County at the turn of the century.
