From extreme high energy to the softest love song, F. E. Madill Secondary
School Drama Guild students wowed the audience at their Broadway Revue.
Beginning with gentle words, stolen in a secret moment between
passionate youths, bottom left, Ginny Schenk as Maria and Darryl Manjin as
Tony perform Tonight, from West Side Story.
Reminiscent of rebellious times during the 60s, Hair, was high energy and
performed enthusiastically by the students. Ashley Gropp, of Brussels, top
left, and Rachel McQuail, of West Wawanosh Twp., bottom right, were
among the throng of dancers in the number.
Taking their cue from a very popular, current Broadway smash, Madill's
version of Stomp brought the true spirit of the rhythmic yet unusual
production to life. Seen at the top right, Schenk, left, and Katrina McQuail of
West Wawanosh Twp., pound sticks and clash lids while encouraged by the
array of background sounds.
In a production that inspired audience members, the students performed a
portion of Jesus Christ Superstar. Matt Campbell of Belgrave, as Herod,
Miranda Haasnoot and Karen Prentice as members of Herod's Harem added
comic relief to the sometimes solemn story as they mock Jesus, bottom
centre.
Other numbers included in the revue, which was held Thursday, Friday
and Saturday evenings, were from Pirates of Penzance, Titanic, South
Pacific, Grease, Man of La Mancha, Guys and Dolls, Impossible Dream, Les
Miz and Godspell.
The students, particularly those graduating, were thrilled to perform scenes .
from a variety of musicals which offered them the opportunity to showcase
immense talents.
