James Murray welcomed everyone and the opening hymn Part of the Family was sung. The junior choir did a marvelous job of singing, My Heart will Go On. Rev. Murray then called Rob, Sandra, Blake and baby Jesse Sangster to the front of the church for the baptism of Jesse. Blake poured water into the font. After the baptism Rev. Murray took the baby down the aisles and introduced him to his church family. Rev. Murray called the young The Walton Early Years students looked at the sound of 'ai' this week. They made paper airplanes and flew them outside. For Mother's Day they planted spider plants and decorated the flower pots with tissue paper. Several parents, grandparents and preschoolers visited this week during activity times. Thanks to Carol MacGregor for volunteering with the Mother's Day gift. For the new JK and SK there was a bus safety program this week. Officer Don Shropshall came and showed them a video and went on the bus ride with them. They practised getting on and off safely, etc. The Grade 1/2 and 2/3s had a great Author's Day on Thursday, May 7. They had worked very hard to write a story, publish it in a book and illustrate the story. They had written invitations to a guest. They read their books to their own guest then other guests. Each child served their visitors lemonade and cookies then shared the writings from their portfolios. In preparation for the event the worshippers to the front of the church. The winner went to the Krispie chocolate squares. The least favourite was the Rice Krispie squares. After the Grade 4s went swimming this week they went to Seaforth Public School to get orientated to their new surroundings for next year. A student from Grade 7, Trisha McClure, came and told them about the school and took them on a tour of the school and playground. There will be 14 students going to Seaforth next fall. The Grade 3/4s also worked on their Mother's Day gifts which were picture frames and pins made from puzzle pieces. They are also getting in shape for the track and field day which will be on May 22. asked, "Is there a commandment which teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?" Tickets will be available soon. Details will be advertised in The Citizen in the coming weeks. The Hall board is planning the annual Cranbrook Yard and Crafts Sale for Saturday, June 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (raindate Saturday, June 27 - same time). The Hall board will finance advertising in local papers two weeks prior to the event. A donation of $2 is requested from each participating family. Grey Township council held its regular meeting on May 4 and passed a resolution advising the Wingham Police Service of its intent to purchase police services from Wingham effective Oct. 1. The building, dating from the 1850s, was unused for some 20 years and was on the verge of collapse. A choice had to be made to raze it to the ground or to restore it. At present it is being shored up. It is not going to be used as a store. Though many local people still have memories of going to the store in Cranbrook, those will remain memories.
