Kathleen Williamson and
Margaret Craig were greeters at
Duff's United Church this Mother's
Day Sunday, May 10.
Rev. James Murray welcomed
everyone and the opening hymn
Part of the Family was sung.
The junior choir did a marvelous
job of singing, My Heart will Go
On.
Rev. Murray then called Rob,
Sandra, Blake and baby Jesse
Sangster to the front of the church
for the baptism of Jesse. Blake
poured water into the font. After
the baptism Rev. Murray took the
baby down the aisles and
introduced him to his church
family.
Rev. Murray called the young
The Walton Early Years students
looked at the sound of 'ai' this
week. They made paper airplanes
and flew them outside.
For Mother's Day they planted
spider plants and decorated the
flower pots with tissue paper.
Several parents, grandparents and
preschoolers visited this week
during activity times. Thanks to
Carol MacGregor for volunteering
with the Mother's Day gift.
For the new JK and SK there was
a bus safety program this week.
Officer Don Shropshall came and
showed them a video and went on
the bus ride with them. They
practised getting on and off safely,
etc.
The Grade 1/2 and 2/3s had a
great Author's Day on Thursday,
May 7. They had worked very hard
to write a story, publish it in a book
and illustrate the story.
They had written invitations to a
guest. They read their books to
their own guest then other guests.
Each child served their visitors
lemonade and cookies then shared
the writings from their portfolios.
In preparation for the event the
worshippers to the front of the
church. He asked them what they
plan on doing special for their
moms. He pointed out that the gift
of loving was the most important
gift. The more love you give the
more you get back.
The senior choir sang Out of
Deep Unordered Water.
Rev. Murray announced the
Country Smorgasbord Supper on
May 18 from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m.
Tickets are available from any
UCW member.
His sermon was called, "Love
one Another".
While talking about family love,
a Sunday school teacher quoted the
commandment, "Honour Thy
Father and Mother." Then she
children made Rice Krispie
squares, Krispie chocolate squares,
Dad's cookies, chocolate chip
cookies, peanut butter squares and
brownies. The 1/2s made the
lemonade, decorated banners and
created fresh floral arrangements.
The next day they tested each
cookie and did a survey to find the
favourite. The winner went to the
Krispie chocolate squares. The
least favourite was the Rice Krispie
squares.
After the Grade 4s went
swimming this week they went to
Seaforth Public School to get
orientated to their new
surroundings for next year. A
student from Grade 7, Trisha
McClure, came and told them about
the school and took them on a tour
of the school and playground.
There will be 14 students going to
Seaforth next fall.
The Grade 3/4s also worked on
their Mother's Day gifts which
were picture frames and pins made
from puzzle pieces.
They are also getting in shape for
the track and field day which will
be on May 22.
asked, "Is there a commandment
which teaches us how to treat our
brothers and sisters?"
The oldest son from a family of
seven children spoke up: "Thou
shalt not kill."
"Love is a choice that we
make,"Rev. Murray said. "It is an
attitude we bring into every
situation. This is why Jesus puts the
idea of loving one another as he has
loved us in the form of a
commandment. It is a required
response."
Love doesn't just happen on its
own. It is a choice made every
moment of every day. It is an
action put into motion with every
step taken. To love someone is to
serve them, to care for them, to
reach out to them, and to invite
them in.
"Without love we are never
complete or whole. Without love,
we are as helpless as a newborn
infant who has not one to care for
them."

The community must be
wondering what all the work At the
old Cranbrook store is about. The
building, dating from the 1850s,
was unused for some 20 years and
was on the verge of collapse.
A choice had to be made to raze
it to the ground or to restore it. At
present it is being shored up. It is
not going to be used as a store.
Though many local people still
have memories of going to the store
in Cranbrook, those will remain
memories.
