Tea time Huronlea's activation co-ordinator takes a spin around the dance floor with Elizabeth Conor as Grace Jutzi tickles the ivories at the Huronlea Auxiliary's Mother's Day Tea held Friday, May 8. M. Huether hosts WMS The WMS of Melville Presbyterian Church met at the home of Mary Huether for their May meeting. President Helen Elliott welcomed the members. Leona Armstrong had the devotions. She started by reading a poem "Mother's Day". The hymn For the Beauty of the Earth was sung. The scripture reading was from Mark, chapter 4. Rev. Cathrine Campbell gave a reading on "Palliative Care" - even some contributions make a difference. Leona led in prayer, then gave a reading, "How to see the beauty around us." The hymn God who made the earth was sung. "Nature's Helicopters" was read. It was on hummingbirds. There are 129 species. Prayer closed this part of the meeting. Mrs. Elliott presided for the business. Reports were given and approved. Ruby Steiss gave a very interesting account from the study book, "Feeding Canada's Kids" from "Loaves and Fishes". Rev. Majestic hosts euchre An enjoyable evening of cards was held on Tuesday, May 5, sponsored by Majestic Women's Institute. Prizes went to the following: high lady, Dorothy Dilworth; high man, Jim Smith; low lady, Iola Subject; low man, Eluned McNair; most lone hands, lady, Viola Adams; man, Doug Hemingway, Mary Davidson; most zeros, lady, Erma Brighton; man, Freida D'Arcey, John Subject and Bill Craig; lucky tallies, June Jacklin, Allan Edgar, Annie Wight, Isabelle Craig, Jeanne Ireland, Iona McLean. A special draw for Mother's Day flowers was won by Jeanne Ireland. Bike stolen On April 29, at approximately 1:30 p.m. a boy's Venture BMX - Treme bicycle, blue and chrome colour was reported stolen. The bike was taken overnight from the victim's front porch on John Street, Brussels.
