Class makes chocolate goodies
Shannon, Jeff and Jacob
McGavin greeted worshippers at
Duff's United Church on May 3.
Beautiful floral arrangements were
placed in the church in loving
memory of Don McDonald.
Rev. James Murray gave the 'Call
to Worship' and the congregation
joined in the singing of the Introit.
Rev. Murray announced that next
Sunday will be a special event as a
baptism will be taking place. The
congregation will be welcoming
Sandra (Sholdice) and Rob
Sangster's baby into the church.
Everyone is invited to come and
enjoy this blessed event.
Rev. Murray's sermon was called
'Victory. For him, one of the most
important images of God is that of
Jesus as the good shepherd. For the
shepherd cares for his sheep. He
gives his life for the flock. He binds
up their wounds. He leads them to

Reeve Mason Bailey and Stewart
will attend the Ontario Small Urban
Municipalities annual conference in
Huntsville, April 29 to May 2.
Stewart was authorized to attend
good pastures. He clears the pasture
of hazards and doesn't abandon
them in the darkest valleys. He
searches for them when they are
lost. God cares personally for all
and cares what happens.
A friend of Rev. Murray's once
preached a sermon called, 'Mother's
don't let your sons grow up to be
shepherds.' Shepherds were the
cowboys of their day. They were
the outsider who didn't quite fit into
the patterns of polite society, Rev.
Murray said.
"God has been challenging us to
step outside of the boundaries of
conventional and polite society in
order to live life in the fullest.
When you are guided by
compassion and you share tender
mercy with others, do you not often
step out of bounds? God's divine
love opens us up to the way of the
good shepherd, the way of Jesus."

Walton kindergartens this week
are still into bug watching. Dalton
Becker just happened to come upon
a cute little 'Cicada' and brought it
into the class for all to see. If
anyone has a bug collection of any
sort and would like to show it let
Mrs. Scott know.
The Grade 1/2s are continuing to
learn how to care for the earth and
the creatures that share its
resources. They recycled
construction paper, newsprint and
duplicating paper using a blender to
grind the paper into pulp, a screen
to lift a layer of pulp and an iron to
press and dry the pulp into a sheet
of recycled paper. They recorded
the steps and wrote how they felt
about the process. A special thanks
to Barb Durrell for spending extra
time monitoring the ironing.
The 2/3s have published their
books and have been busy reading
them their buddies. They are also
trying their hands at poetry.
The Grade 3s had a test practise
so they will have an idea what it is
all about as testing begins at the
end of May.

If one could measure the shock
of a person's death on a richter
scale it could be said that the shock
of Don McDonald's death hit 10.
His unexpected and sudden death
sent shock waves throughout the
community.
In his eulogy, eldest son Bruce
Grade 3/4 in the afternoon, while
Maggie Crane is busy with board
obligations.
Some of the 3/4s, after reading
Chocolate Touch, experimented
using chocolate chips and made
some gooey goodies, then made
brownies. Another group were
eating 'gummy worms' while doing
research on earth worms along with
reading, How to Eat Fried Worms.
McDonald told of what his grandpa
used to say, that one could tell what
kind of a person one was by the
size of his funeral. If that is true,
then Don McDonald was an
incredible man, for his funeral was
very large, attended by hundreds of
people.
