THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29, 1998. Trio sings at UCW meeting Bible Study was held at Londesboro United Church on April 20 with an excellent attendance. It will be held at Knox United, Auburn on April 29 at 1:30 p.m. Read 2 Timothy. Rev. Paul Ross will be the guest speaker at Brucefield and Kippen United Church on May 3. The minister at Auburn United will be Rev. Cheri Di Nova from Brucefield. Canadian Tire money (or cash) will be used to buy supplies for Camp Menesetung for the next few weeks. Crafts, supplies, etc. are needed. Dorothy Grange and Kay Lapp Music prelude with Bernice Gross, organist welcomed the congregation to Knox United on April 26. The opening chorus was sung and invitation to worship was from Psalm 30 "Give thanks to God", followed by prayer by Rev. Paul Ross. The children were called to the front and a young guest drew a stopwatch from the mystery bag. Rev. Ross discussed the use of one and stressed the importance of time By Mike Bean On Thursday, April 23 President Brett Bean opened the 4-H Healthy Eating Club with the pledge. The theme for the meeting was "Dinner at Home". They had to make a supper for the members, ,t two leaders and two guests. Levi Taylor and Andrew House prepared the hamburger. Mike Bean cut the cabbage for a casserole, and made a lettuce salad. M. J. Horbanuik, Kalli and Danielle Taylor, Peggy Hulley and Rebecca House, under Karen Taylor's supervision, made pumpkin custard pie. Christine Lapp and Brett Bean prepared carrots while Helen Lapp mixed lemonade. Members said the 4-H grace and began eating. Everybody enjoyed the supper. A discussion about Achievement Day, the George Fox concert at the Blyth Hall on May 24 and the were delegates for the Silver Tops at Holmesville on Tuesday, April 21. Mrs. Betsy Verwey has returned from London to her son John's home. She is recovering from serious surgery. A number of Auburnites attended the dessert and card party at the Clinton Lawn Bowling Club. The Clubhouse was packed and everyone enjoyed the delicious desserts served by club members. Numerous prizes were given to successful winners. This was held at 1:30 p.m. on April 23. There will be another on May 7. in daily life. Rev. Ross read scripture from Acts 9. Here Saul met the spirit of the Lord on his trip and became a changed man. From St. John 21 scripture continued as Jesus instructed Peter to "feed his sheep". Have Thine Own Way, Lord was sung. The sermon topic was "Do What You're Told". As one goes through life instructions are given about the right and wrong way of doing things. "We must follow God's commands and do what we feel is correct," said Rev. Ross. upcoming judging club was held. The next meeting will be a barbecue supper on April 30 at 5 p.m. at the Lapps' home. The Auburn UCW met at the church on April 21. Shelley Worsell welcomed everyone. Nancy Park then spoke of Spring. The hymn Pass it One was sung. Scripture from Matthew 13, was read by Shelley Worsell. The congregation heard a trio sing Help Us Lord. Later, the trio, Charlotte Worsell, Lisa Carter and Brett Bean, assisted by Shelley, gave a delightful and meaningful skit on "Planting Seeds". Nancy Park dressed as a tulip, gave a lesson on the life of a bulb, the earth, the rain, the sun and finally the beautiful flower, one of God's miracles. One side of the basement displayed numerous articles for Community Care and Children's Aid. Ruth Armstrong showed the special Community Care display. She then introduced Joan Van den Broeck who spoke of the value of the UCW to Children's Aid work. She said assistance is certainly appreciated. Ruth closed with the financial report. Secretary Kay Lapp was deeply honoured by an address by Dorothy Grange and a presentation of life member pin and certificate by Maureen Bean. Grace Cartwright gave her card and gift report. Camp Menesetung is opening on April 27, so the cabin must be taken care of. Shelley Worsell told of supplies needed for cleaning. Three mattresses have been purchased at $60 each.
