Wescast announces
$60 million plan
Wingham and the surrounding
area will benefit greatly from an
announced expansion to Wescast
Industries.
The company revealed last week,
that the new casting facility which
will be built in the Wingham area,
will employ as many as 300 in the
next five years.
In a press release, Vice-President
of Manufacturing Bill LeVan said,
"Phase one of the new plant will
expand our annual production by
33 per cent. A potential phase two
would allow a further 25 per cent
increase in capacity by 2002."
The project is expected to cost
more than $60 million, with the
specific site not yet determined.
Local officials were very pleased
with the announced expansion,
forecasting increased business in
the community and a trickle-down
effect of job creation.
Mayor Don Carter also said it
will provide a boost to the plan for
a new North Huron recreation com-
plex.
Carter credits the successful bid
to the team effort by Wingham,
Turnberry, Morris and East
Wawanosh Twp. councils.
It not only worked on this pro-
ject, but the municipalities are now
working more closely on other
issues such as the recreation com-
plex and future economic develop-
ment plans, he said.

Huron County OPP will be losing
their hair for a good cause, May 9,
when 30 officers from four local
detachments participate in the
"shave-off' for cancer.
More than $10,000 has already
been pledged to the head-shaving
event, though officers hope to dou-
ble that amount in the next 10 days.
The shaving will take place at the
Canadian Tire Store, Hwy. 8 in
Goderich from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The CKNX event van will be on
hand and draws will be held for a
chance to enter the "Canadian Tire
Money Machine". Hotdogs and
drinks, along with face painting for
the children, will be available.
There will be a special visit by
