An innovative demonstration
project combining the marketing
strengths of Huron County tourism
operators and the regional agri-food
sector has received the support of
the Agricultural Adaptation
Council (AAC).
The project, co-ordinated by the
Huron Tourism Association,
combines development of tourism
activities with the promotion of
regional agri-food produce. Support
is made possible through the AAC's
CanAdapt program, with funding
provided by Agriculture and Agri-
Food Canada.
"Developing partnerships within
rural communities increases
available human and financial
resources and in this case, new
agri-tourism activities, consumer
awareness and loyalty to Huron
County agricultural commodities,"
said Paul Henderson, chair of the
Agricultural Adaptation Council.
"This is a model for rural
development projects which
attempt to harmonize resources to
create new jobs, economic
activities and local awareness."
The project, entitled "Explore
Ontario's West Coast", is intended
to improve revenues of existing
agricultural and tourism operations;
create a wider exposure to
consumer markets for Ontario
produce; create alternative sources
