Bowling Leafs capture top honours at banquet Londesboro and Auburn United Church met at 10 a.m. on Good Friday at Knox United Church. Rev. Paul Ross,, assisted with readings by Mrs. Ross, led the service with the congregation answering when necessary. A special hymn was sung for the Easter occasion by former choir member Jake Middlekamp and Nancy Park. Appropriate hymns were sung by the choir and congregation throughout the service. The candle light was extinguished and the final hymn Were you There? was followed by silence. On a beautiful Easter Sunday congregation and guests met at 10 a.m. at Knox United Church, Auburn for the Easter service. The children were called to the front and out of the mystery bag a bunny rabbit toy and stress ball were drawn. After conversation with the children Rev. Ross explained that Christ died so they might live and that was how a baby rabbit and an Easter egg became Easter symbols. The children, after prayer, went A number of Aubumites were at Huronview on Saturday, April 11 for the celebration of Mrs. Isobel Turner's 85th birthday. Her daughters and sons were there to greet the visitors and a beautiful birthday cake was served in her honour. There were visitors celebrating from Goderich, Clinton, Blyth and all surrounding areas as well as from distances. to their classes. Scripture was read from Luke 24. Here the women came to the grave with spices and did not find Christ's body, but were met by two radiant men who said "He is risen!" An Easter hymn was sung by the choir with Bernice Gross as organist. Rev. Ross spoke on the Easter story, followed by the lesson from Acts 10, where Peter told followers that God commanded them to preach and tell people that He was raised from the dead and lives. He continued, "We are people of God and must show this in our daily actions." During the church service on April 12 Rev. Ross played moderator Rt. Rev. Bill Phipps with Graeme Worsell playing the questioner. From this Rev. Ross gave his interpretation of•Rev. Phipp's answers. He still is a "Man of God", he said. Bible Study is beginning again on April 14 at the Sunday School room at 1:30 p.m. Auburn UCW is to meet on April 21 at 8 p.m. with Community Care Project on display. Happy birthday and many more Isobel. There were a number of visitors in the district for Easter. Also many visited with friends and relatives at distances. The Easter baskets were made up at Knox United Church on April 9 and delivered to shutins. Special thanks to members of the UCW who so willingly gave gifts and donations. The Londesboro Men's Bowling League held its annual banquet and trophy awards night on Thursday, April 9 at the Londesboro Hall with the Londesboro Institute serving a roast beef dinner. Regular season winners were: top team, Rangers, Captain Dave Plant, Bill Rod, Joe Hann, Gord Gerrits, Tony Middegaal; trophy winners, high average, Jack Potter, 213; high triple, Bill Lee; high single, Jim Watt, 332 and the Bill Sottiaux trophy for most improved bowler, Gord Gerrits. Playoffs top team was the Leafs, Captain Herman Greidanus, Harry Lear, Brent Thomas, Jack Lee, Henk Vanshaik. After the supper and trophy presentation everyone went to the Crown Lanes for three fun games. Winners were Joe Hann and Jack Lee, Gord Gerrits and "Ken Ellis, Harry Lear and Stan Johns. Having perfect attendance were Mark Verburg, Bob Szusz, Dennis Wilts, Ed DeJong, Bill Lee, John Klassen, Henry Wilts, Ten VanDeVusse, Frank Szusz, Herman Reinink, Doug Snell, 0'0 Herman Greidanus, Harry Lear, Jack Lee, Matt Pearson. The Londesboro and area ladies bowling banquet was April 7 at the Blue Fountain Restaurant in Clinton. Winners were: high average, Rita Verburg, 185; runner-up, Carol Mannings, 178; high single, Barb Desch, 293; runner-up, Liz Lawson, 257; high triple, Corrie Bos, 647; runner-up, Lisa Sherred, 603; most improved, Colleen Carter, +20. Having perfect attendance at 78 games were: Rita Verburg, Barb Desch, Carol Munnings, Helen Dale, Colleen Carter, Gerry Dale, Lisa Sherred, Betty Dale, Reah Reinink, Elizabeth Lawson, Sharon LaCroix. Team standings, Chickadees, 155.5; Robins, 127; Bluebirds, 124; Hummingbirds, 112.5. The Chickadees, Carol Mannings, Agnes Doherty, Colleen Carter and Lisa Sherred were first with 155.5 while the Robins, Rita Verburg, Gerry Dale, Liz Lawson and Sharon LaCroix were second with 127. Greeters at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, April 12 were Roy and Marie Krauter. Ushers were Kelly Bosman and Angela Horbanuik. The senior choir sang. Meditation was "The Easter Story — The empty tomb". Londcsboro United Church will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Sunday, May 17. The sympathy of the community is extended to the family of the late John Aitchison. He lived in Beth Knox's trailer. School hosts April auction The UCW will meet on Monday, April 20 at 8 p.m., Mrs. Emily Phillips will be the speaker. There is an auction at Hullett Central School on Saturday, April 18 at 6 p.m. Keep the "physical" in education!
