Brussels Public School hosted more than forty students involved in an exchange with
France, for an April 7 dance. Thirty-seven youths from Huron County travelled to France
during spring break with their hosts returning to Canada for a stay from April 5-16.
Locals host French visitors
and pastries every day.
"My family was very, very kind
and took me in as if I were their
daughter. They fed me chocolate
bread at every meal. I ate about 50
slices," said Falconer in an inter-
view with school reporter Heather
Elliott.
Those involved in the exchange
said it was a great experience and
they would like to do it again.
The French students returned the
exchange April 5-16.
An assortment of activities were
planned including curling, bowling,
dances, fun fair, a visit to Kitchen-
er's Sportsworld, SkyDome, the CN
Tower, Ontario Science Centre and
Huron County Museum.
Upon their arrival, the students
were welcomed with a picnic at
Central Huron Secondary School
and greetings from education exec-
utives and local politicians.

McKay of Clinton, Dave Scott of
Seaforth and Ben Hoogenboom of

It was a wonderful opportunity in
their young lives as 37 students
from 12 public schools in Huron
County travelled to France during
the spring break, March 11-24.
The process began last year as
Grade 6 and 7 students applied to
the exchange program, said Saman-
tha Thomas of Brussels.
She, along with Kyle Stephenson
of Brussels Public School, were
granted the educational chance to
improve their French.
Other local participants were:
Jackie Falconer and Kristin Oster
of Blyth Public School; Cheryl
Armstrong, Heather Armstrong,
Nicole Hallman, Joel Hemingway
and Angela Stratton of Grey Cen-
tral Public School; Rosalyn Hart-
man, Tina Meuhiethaler and
Maegan Reinhart of Hullett Central
Public School and Kendra Ben-
newies, Shannon Brooker, Brittany
Holmes, Missy Teatero and Katie
Thomas of Seaforth Public School.
The students departed Toronto,
March 11, for Montreal, where they
flew to Paris, before settling into
homes in Alencon area.
Arriving in Paris at 8 a.m., March
12, they climbed the stairs of the
Eiffel Tower and participated in
some interesting events, said Fal-
coner and Oster.
They travelled through the tunnel
where Princess Diana was killed
and walked to the L' Arc de Triom-
phe.
A reflective moment came when
they visited the Canadian war
cemetery and saw large bomb holes
along the shores of Normandy.
Falconer noticed the high cost of
electricity because the home in
which she stayed was kept cooler
than here.
The showers were only two to
three minutes long, too, said Oster.
The girls mentioned that their
host families bought fresh bread
