FAX 887-6109 CARDIFF & MULVEY A choir of angels The Londesboro United Church junior choir were featured performers at the 18th annual Songfest on Sunday night. The choir sang Kids Under Construction and Everyone Makes- Mistakes. L The news from ondesboro Compiled by June Fothergill Phone 523-4360 Jr. choir, local talent perform at Songfest Fred and Eva from Denfield, Wayne Ropp and Family, Aubrey and Cheryl Toll, Blyth and St. Paul's quartet from Chatham. The master of ceremonies was Rev. Paul Ross. Organist was Kern Szusz and pianist was Andrea Postma. The junior choir director is Kelly Bosman. Thanks is extended to Elgin and Joy Penfound for all the work to get Songfest together. The 18th annual Songfest was held at the United Church on Sunday evening, April 5. The junior choir sang three selections. Others taking part were: News The sympathy of the community is extended to Geraldine and Lome Dale on the passing of Geraldine's brother, Allan Byers of Kitchener. On a beautiful spring day, March 30, the Walkerburn Club met at Audrey Boonstoppel's home. Ethel Ball opened the meeting with a reading, "You'll be Missed". Letters were received from Betty Archambault and Wilfred Collison. Ten members answered the roll call. The birthday gift from Jackie McNee was won by Ethel Ball. A lovely Violet for the draw from Mrs. Boonstoppel was won by Vera Penfound. The club was invited to Christine Gross for the next meeting. Betty Archambault will be in charge of the program and Ethel Ball the lunch. On Wednesday, April 8 the members will meet at 9 a.m. for a trip to the Mennonite area. One quilt that the club quilters made was given to the Blyth fire victims. The other was made for an Aylmer nursing home. There is one more to make and it will be given to Alzheimer's. Mrs. Ball continued with quizz.s, then finished with a poem, "Everybody, Somebody, Nobody". Vera Penfound continued with "Dirty Dishes" and concluded with "Forgive Me when I Whine". The hostess showed smart standup characters that she is making — one was Jolly Mr. Jingle. There is a great deal of work in making them. Before members left for home Mrs. Boonstoppel gave a tour of her new home. From the windows, views are seen in every direction. The club certainly enjoyed a lovely afternoon. The Auburn district enjoyed a Lions Club pancake breakfast on Sunday, April 5. At 10 a.m. on April 10 there will be a Good Friday Service at Knox United, Auburn. A delicious country supper was enjoyed at the Auburn United Church on April 1. Special thanks to those in charge. Several Auburnites attended and thoroughly enjoyed the Songfest at Londesboro on Sunday evening, April 5 as a number of former Auburnites also attended. Hunkings greet at church Greeters at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, April 5 -were Lorne and Addie Hunking. Ushers were Ken and Marlene Armstrong. The senior and junior choirs sang. The sermon was "Making up our Minds". Holy Communion was held. The Good Friday service will be at Knox United Church, Auburn at 10 a.m. ANNOUNCEMENT CARDIFF & MULVEY REAL ESTATE & INSURANCE LTD. Paul Ross welcomed all and gave the announcements. The board is to meet on Tuesday, April 14 at 8 p.m. There will be Good Friday service on April 10 at Knox United. The UCW meeting meets on April 21 at 8 p.m., there will be a Community Care Project on display. Gifts and donations for UCW Easter basket should be at the church by Thursday, April 9. The opening chorus was sung, followed by responsive worship invitation from Psalm 118 — God may test one but He never forgets a person. The children were invited to the front and out of the mystery bag a cross was drawn. Rev. Ross then gave one to each child. He spoke to them about people that they honoured. Then he told them that they must always honour God. After prayer the children went to their classrooms and the children's chorus was sung. Scripture was given from Isaiah 50. In this he listened to what God said and gave him help in his trials. Then from Luke 19 was his translation of Palm Sunday. Two of Christ's disciples were sent to get a colt. They brought it back and Jesus sat on it. As it moved He was praised highly. Rev. Ross' sermon was "Making up Our Minds". As people go through life they come upon trials and tribulations. However, by praying and doing what they consider best it is hoped that God helps make the correct decision. The communion service was held. The elders serving were Tina Empey, Gregory Park, Gordon Gross and Larry Plaetzer.
